Finn Wolfhard Shares Bizarre and Outrageous Fan Encounter: “I Think About That All the Time”
As Stranger Things gears up for Season 5, Volume 1, the cast is reflecting on what it’s been like to close out the story that’s followed them for over a decade.
Collider sat down with Finn Wolfhard, Sadie Sink, Gaten Matarazzo, and Caleb McLaughlin to talk about filming the finale, reading the scripts, and the unforgettable fans they’ve met along the way.
The cast admitted that reading the series finale was an emotional experience. Sadie Sink told Collider, “Emotional. I wasn’t expecting to get that worked up. It snuck up on us, I think.” Finn Wolfhard agreed, recalling, “I was pretty convinced that I wasn’t going to get emotional, and then there was one line. I started saying my line, and I started kind of choking up a bit.”
Gaten Matarazzo described how emotions spread through the room like wildfire, while Caleb McLaughlin tried to stay composed amid the wave of feelings.
“It honestly felt like an anime,” McLaughlin said, describing the moment. “Like one of those scenes, like those ballads, with the score in the background, and it’s slow and beautiful. I was looking at everyone’s face, and that’s how I felt.” Finn added, “It felt like a flashback, but it was happening in person.”
Besides sharing their emotional reactions to the finale, the cast also revealed some of their wildest fan encounters.
Finn Wolfhard had the most bizarre story. He told Collider about a signing at a record store where a young fan and her family came to meet him. The fan asked for a sip of his half-drunk water, and Finn said no. “No. No, you can’t. No, you can’t have my water. I’m still drinking it,” he explained. The fan’s family got upset, calling him rude, and Finn laughed about how strange it all was. “That was a very weird interaction. I think about that all the time,” he said.
Matarazzo joked about Finn’s excuse, “You’re still drinking it is the best excuse.” Finn added with a grin, “Not that it’s disturbing. ‘Your question is disturbing, but I’m actually still drinking it.’”
