First ‘Batman: Knightquest’ Trailer Arrives, and Gotham’s Dark Knight Is Being Replaced

Warner Bros. Animation’s take on one of Batman’s most famous comic-book sagas is quickly turning into a must-watch event for DC fans. The ‘Batman: Knightfall’ trilogy has been built as an R-rated animated series, and its middle chapter is now stepping into the spotlight. Anticipation around the sequel has been growing since the first installment landed.

That first film, ‘Batman: Knightfall Part 1: Knightfall’, arrived on August 25, and early reports described rave reviews. The trilogy follows the structure of the comic storyline, moving from ‘Knightfall’ to ‘Knightquest’ before a final chapter, ‘KnightsEnd’, slated for 2027. That leaves the middle film with a big job: showing what Gotham looks like after Bruce Wayne’s downfall.

Now the wait for a first look is over. The first trailer for ‘Batman: Knightfall Part 2: Knightquest’ was timed for Batman Day, September 19, with pre-orders for the animated sequel opening the same day. DiscussingFilm shared the 1-minute-10-second trailer on X, noting it is coming soon to Digital, and the post has since passed 581.5K views, 19K likes, and 2.2K reposts.

The footage puts the grim tone front and center. One frame shows a villain in a purple suit firing a machine gun at two bound, gagged men, which suggests this series is not holding back. Fans in the replies were quick to react, with one user arguing that no one does animated movies better than DC.

The voice cast is stacked. Anson Mount voices Bruce Wayne/Batman and Michael Mando returns as Bane, while Pablo Schreiber plays Jean Paul Valley/Azrael. Jack Griffo is Tim Drake/Robin, Bruce Boxleitner voices Commissioner Gordon, Simon Templeman plays Alfred Pennyworth, and Toks Olagundoye voices Shondra Kinsolving.

Behind the camera, Jeff Wamester directs from a screenplay by Jeremy Adams. Jim Krieg and Kimberly S. Moreau produce, with Michael Uslan and Sam Register serving as executive producers. That creative team has a lot riding on this chapter.

The premise is the real draw. Jean-Paul Valley, also known as Azrael, takes up the mantle of the Dark Knight, and his ruthless tactics redefine Gotham’s vigilante legacy. One preview of the film says it will move beyond the Bane-Batman conflict and focus on identity, responsibility, and the consequences of replacing Bruce Wayne.

That makes the sequel a very different beast from a standard superhero brawl. The story asks what happens when the symbol outlives the man, and who is allowed to wear it. For a franchise as old as Batman, that question still carries weight.

There is still one open question, however. The film does not yet have a specific release date, only a window later this year. With the trailer live and pre-orders open, an official date announcement probably won’t be far behind.

For now, the trailer has done its job by reminding fans how much is at stake in Gotham. The tone is darker, the villains are deadlier, and the man under the cowl is no longer the one they know. If ‘Knightquest’ delivers on that promise, the trilogy’s finale in 2027 will be very hard to miss.
