HBO has released the first trailer for its new Harry Potter series, giving fans a full look at the cast and an early premiere date of Christmas 2026. The show will retell J.K. Rowling’s story starting with Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, promising a fresh take on the world of magic.

The trailer introduces Dominic McLaughlin as Harry, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley. One charming moment shows Stanton sitting at a desk, smiling in classic Hermione fashion, giving fans a taste of her clever and curious personality.

Adult characters are also on display. John Lithgow appears fully dressed as Albus Dumbledore, complete with his robe and long beard. Janet McTeer plays Professor McGonagall, Nick Frost is Hagrid, and Paapa Essiedu steps into the role of Severus Snape. The trailer highlights the iconic Hogwarts setting while showcasing the new cast.

Francesca Gardiner, known for her work on Succession, is the showrunner, and several episodes are directed by Game of Thrones veteran Mark Mylod. Warner Bros. Discovery’s JB Perrette called the series “the biggest streaming event in the history of HBO Max and arguably in streaming, period. It’s number one, two and three in many ways.”

This first look gives fans a glimpse of the reimagined Hogwarts and the young heroes of the story. With the Christmas 2026 release, it’s shaping up to be a major holiday event. Stanton’s portrayal of Hermione, especially her smile at the desk, already shows promise and seems to capture the essence of the character.

From what we’ve seen so far, the trailer sets an exciting stage for the series. I think Arabella Stanton looks like a perfect fit for Hermione, and the new cast brings a lot of energy to the Hogwarts world. What do you think about this first look? Share your thoughts in the comments.
