First Look at ‘Playdate’: Alan Ritchson and Kevin James Team Up in New Comedy Film
A new sneak peek has been released for Playdate, the upcoming action-comedy movie starring Kevin James and Alan Ritchson.
The film is directed by Luke Greenfield and written by Neil Goldman, and it’s set to hit Amazon Prime Video on November 12.
The synopsis of the movie is as follows: “When recently unemployed accountant Brian (James) agrees to a playdate with charismatic stay-at-home dad Jeff (Ritchson) and their sons, he expects an easy afternoon of small talk and football tossing. Instead, he’s thrust into a chaotic scramble to stay alive as they are pursued by a ruthless team of mercenaries.”
“Brian stumbles through one ridiculous obstacle after another, his zero tactical skills a stark contrast to Jeff’s oddly prepared demeanor. Director Luke Greenfield (Let’s Be Cops, The Girl Next Door) hilariously collides suburban dad life with high-stakes thrills, transforming an ordinary afternoon into an absurd action-packed adventure where minivan mayhem meets professional hitmen.”
The movie brings together a fun and energetic cast that includes Kevin James as Brian Jennings and Alan Ritchson as Jeff Eamon. Joining them are Sarah Chalke as Emily, Alan Tudyk as Simon Maddox, Stephen Root as Gordon, Isla Fisher as Leslie, Benjamin Pajak as Lucas, and Banks Pierce as CJ.

According to reports, the film started production in March 2024 in Vancouver, Canada, and wrapped up just over a month later, in April. The project was first announced in February 2024, when it was revealed that Luke Greenfield would direct and Neil Goldman would write the screenplay. Not long after that, the rest of the cast came on board, including Chalke, Tudyk, Root, and Fisher.
The newly released sneak peek shows off the playful chemistry between Kevin James and Alan Ritchson, who appear to be having a blast in their roles. The film mixes fast-paced action with laugh-out-loud comedy, something both actors are known for.
