First Look at ‘The Pitt’ Season 2: New and Disgraced Doctor Join the Chaos
The first look at season 2 of the Emmy-nominated medical drama, The Pitt, has been released, and fans are in for a dramatic return.
The new season is set on July 4th, 10 months after the events of the first season finale, and it will follow the show’s signature format of unfolding over a single 15-hour shift in the emergency department.
Showrunner R. Scott Gemmill explained to Entertainment Weekly that the timing was chosen to bring back Dr. Frank Langdon, played by Patrick Ball.
Langdon is returning after completing rehab following a drug addiction that caused a major fallout with Dr. Robby, played by Noah Wyle. “It was really driven by wanting to have the Langdon character back and knowing how much time he would’ve had to spend in rehab and going through his recovery process,” Gemmill said. “We knew it had to be about 10 months, [which] took us into the summer.”
Langdon’s return won’t be without tension. Most of the hospital staff already know about his past, but some of the new characters won’t. The reunion with Robby will be particularly charged. “Let’s just say there’s a lot of history that has to be resolved between them before they can get back to any kind of normalcy,” Gemmill shared.
Season 2 also introduces a new doctor, Dr. Al-Hashimi, played by Sepideh Moafi. She comes from the VA Hospital and has previously worked with Dr. Mel King and Dr. Samira Mohan.
According to Gemmill, her progressive approach to medicine clashes with Robby’s more traditional methods. “Robby has a very specific way of how he likes to run his emergency department, and Dr. Al-Hashimi has her own specific ways of how she likes to run an emergency department, and they’re not necessarily cohesive,” he explained.

Beyond the professional conflicts, Robby is also dealing with his mental health. The first episode focuses on his struggle with post-traumatic stress from the COVID-19 pandemic. Gemmill emphasized that Robby often gives advice to others but struggles to follow it himself. “He has to come to terms with setting an example, I think, for those who he works with so that he can’t tell people to get help and to seek help if he’s not doing it himself,” Gemmill said. Robby plans to take time off, but Gemmill hinted that stepping back from work might not be easy for him.
The Pitt season 2 is set to premiere in January 2026. Fans can expect intense drama, tense new relationships, and a deeper look at the characters’ personal challenges.
