First Look: Henry Cavill Shares His Transformation Into Connor MacLeod for ‘Highlander’ Reboot
Henry Cavill has shared a first look at his role in the upcoming Highlander reboot, giving fans a glimpse of his transformation into Connor MacLeod.
The reboot, titled Highlander: The Reckoning, has been in development for years and has seen several changes in cast, directors, and writers. The actor also revealed that he has injured himself, postponing production for a few months.

The project began in 2008 when Summit Entertainment bought the rights to the franchise, planning to remake the original 1986 film.
Over the years, directors including Justin Lin, Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, Cedric Nicolas-Troyan, and Chad Stahelski were attached to the film, while writers such as Melissa Rosenberg, Ryan J. Condal, and Mike Finch worked on different versions of the script. Producer Neal H. Moritz told Collider, “We want to stay true to the mythologies as a whole of the Highlander series… while presenting the new version for old and new fans of the franchise.”
The reboot has attracted a strong cast. Russell Crowe signed on as Ramirez in June, and Karen Gillan joined the cast as Heather in August.
Cavill’s casting as MacLeod was confirmed in autumn 2023, with Stahelski attached to direct. The film has a reported budget of over $100 million, with producers including Joshua Davis, Moritz, Stahelski, and Louise Rosner. In April, Amazon MGM Studios and Scott Stuber acquired the project under the United Artists banner.
Filming had been scheduled to begin earlier, but production was postponed after Cavill suffered an injury. The new plan is to start shooting in early 2026.
Fans are excited to see Cavill take on the role of the immortal MacLeod. With Stahelski directing, known for his action-packed John Wick films, the reboot promises a fresh and dynamic take on the classic story. The combination of Cavill, Stahelski, and a star-studded cast has already generated a lot of buzz.
