First Look: New ‘Stranger Things’ Spinoff Show Reveals First Images, Cast & Teaser Featurette
Netflix is expanding the Stranger Things universe with a new spinoff called Stranger Things: Tales From ’85.
The streamer revealed first-look images, a teaser featurette, and the voice cast during its 2025 Stranger Things Day celebration.
Set in Hawkins, Indiana, the spinoff takes place in 1985 and promises to deliver the same mix of monsters, adventure, and ’80s nostalgia that made the original series a hit. Unlike the main show, this version is animated and features a retro cartoon style inspired by the era.
The creators, the Duffer Brothers, said this was one of their first ideas when Netflix asked about potential spinoffs. “We wanted to make an animated show that stays true to the original Stranger Things spirit while capturing the look and feel of an ’80s cartoon,” they explained.
Something survived in ’85.

The new images released by Netflix show the young heroes—Mike, Eleven, Dustin, Lucas, Max, and Will, alongside the Upside Down. Even though the world of Hawkins and its monsters remains familiar, none of the original actors are returning to voice their characters.

Instead, Stranger Things: Tales From ’85 will feature new voices including Brooklyn Davey Norstedt as Eleven, Jolie Hoang-Rappaport as Max, Luca Diaz as Mike, Ej (Elisha) Williams as Lucas, Braxton Quinney as Dustin, Ben Plessala as Will, and Brett Gipson as Hopper. Additional voices include Odessa A’zion, Janeane Garofalo, and Lou Diamond Phillips.
Netflix has not yet announced a release date, but the spinoff is expected to premiere in 2026. Fans of the series will finally get to explore a new story set in the beloved town of Hawkins without waiting for the next Stranger Things Day.
