First Official Image from ‘Supergirl’ Set Has Been Released
After Superman, another member of the Super-Family is getting her own solo movie. Supergirl made her first appearance in the DC Universe (DCU) during the final moments of the Superman film. Now, she is stepping into the spotlight with her own story.
Supergirl is directed by Craig Gillespie and written by Ana Nogueira, making it the second film in the DCU. Milly Alcock stars as Kara Zor-El, also known as Supergirl, and the cast also includes Matthias Schoenaerts, Eve Ridley, David Krumholtz, and Emily Beecham.
The movie follows Supergirl as she travels across the galaxy on a violent quest for revenge and is based on the famous ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’ comic series.
Recently, the first official image from the Supergirl set was released, giving fans a first look at the official clapboard and the logo.

Supergirl’s solo film has been in development for years. A film featuring her was first announced as part of the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) in August 2018, and she appeared in The Flash (2023) played by Sasha Calle. Plans for her standalone movie changed after Gunn and Safran became co-CEOs of DC Studios in October 2022.
In January 2023, the new Supergirl project was officially announced as Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, inspired by the 2021–22 comic book miniseries by Tom King and Bilquis Evely. Ana Nogueira was hired as the screenwriter in November 2023, and Milly Alcock was cast in January 2024. Craig Gillespie joined as director in May 2024.
Filming for the movie began on January 13, 2025, at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden and in London, England. Rob Hardy returned as cinematographer. David Krumholtz and Emily Beecham joined later that week as Supergirl’s parents, Zor-El and Alura In-Ze.
James Gunn stayed mostly off set, saying Gillespie had “just been doing his thing” and calling him a great partner. By the end of February, Gunn and Safran confirmed that filming was halfway done. Jason Momoa and Krumholtz wrapped their scenes in April, and filming in Scotland continued until May 10. Scenes were also planned to be shot in Iceland.
According to producers, Kara is more jaded than Clark because she was raised on a piece of Krypton after her planet was destroyed. James Gunn described her as a “pixie-ish, but very attitudinal character”.
Matthias Schoenaerts plays Krem of the Yellow Hills, Eve Ridley plays Ruthye Marye Knoll, a young girl Supergirl meets on her journey, and Emily Beecham and David Krumholtz play her parents. The film also features Supergirl’s dog Krypto and a cameo from Jason Momoa as Lobo, the alien bounty hunter.
Supergirl is scheduled to be released by Warner Bros. Pictures in the United States on June 26, 2026. It will be part of the DCU’s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters.
