Christopher Nolan is back with a massive new film, and fans just got their first look at Elliot Page on set in Iceland. The project is The Odyssey, a big-budget adaptation of Homer’s famous poem, and it’s shaping up to be one of the most ambitious movies of Nolan’s career.

Nolan is writing, directing, and producing the film through his company Syncopy, with Universal Pictures handling distribution.

The movie stars Matt Damon as Odysseus, the legendary Greek king trying to get home after the Trojan War. His journey includes wild encounters with mythological creatures like the Cyclops and the Sirens, plus a long-awaited reunion with his wife, Penelope.

Elliot Page is part of a star-studded cast that also includes Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, Jon Bernthal, Mia Goth, and many more.

Filming started in February 2025 and is happening across several countries including Morocco, Greece, Italy, the UK, Scotland, Ireland, and Iceland. According to The Hollywood Reporter and Deadline, it’s the most expensive film Nolan has ever made, with a budget estimated at $250 million.

Nolan had previously been rumored to be working on other projects, but by late 2024, news came out that his next film would actually be based on The Odyssey. Universal confirmed it in December 2024, calling it a “mythic action epic.”

Matt Damon’s casting as Odysseus was made official in February 2025 when the first photo of him in costume was shared online. Some fans and historians pointed out that the costume wasn’t exactly accurate for the time period, but that hasn’t slowed down excitement for the film.

Elliot Page joined the cast in early 2025, along with other familiar faces from Nolan’s past films. The director has brought back many of his longtime collaborators, including Hoyte van Hoytema as cinematographer and Ludwig Göransson for the score, both of whom worked with Nolan on Oppenheimer.

Filming began in Morocco in late February, before moving to locations in Greece like Pylos and Methoni Castle, and later to parts of Italy. Some scenes were filmed in places that are actually mentioned in Homer’s story.

Production later continued in Los Angeles on a soundstage, with more scenes expected to be shot in the UK, Scotland, and Iceland. The Iceland shoot is where the first photo of Elliot Page was taken, hinting at a significant role in the film.

The movie is being filmed entirely with IMAX cameras, which is a first for a blockbuster of this size. It’s expected to bring a huge visual experience when it hits theaters on July 17, 2026.
