First Trailer for Blumhouse’s ‘The Woman in the Yard’ Has Been Released

Blumhouse has unveiled the initial trailer for its upcoming horror movie, The Woman in the Yard, set to hit theaters on March 28, 2025. Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, this film marks his return to the horror genre after working on action projects like Netflix’s hit Carry-On.

The story centers on a family facing a creepy, unknown threat that shows up on their property, promising a mix of suspense and supernatural chills.

The trailer introduces Danielle Deadwyler as Ramona, a mother struggling after a car accident that killed her husband, played by Russell Hornsby. Left to care for her two kids—a 14-year-old son (Peyton Jackson) and a 6-year-old daughter (Estella Kahiha)—Ramona’s life takes a dark turn when a strange figure appears outside their rural farmhouse.

This mysterious woman, portrayed by Okwui Okpokwasili, is dressed in black and delivers an eerie message: “Today’s the day.” Her bloody hands hint at something sinister, but the trailer keeps her purpose and origins a secret, building curiosity about what’s to come.

Jaume Collet-Serra, known for past horror successes like Orphan and House of Wax, teams up with first-time feature writer Sam Stefanak for this project. Production comes from Blumhouse, a company famous for horror hits like M3GAN and Get Out, with Jason Blum and Stephanie Allain leading as producers.

Deadwyler and Collet-Serra also serve as executive producers, joined by Gabrielle Ebron, Scott Greenberg, and James Moran. Filming took place in Georgia, including at Athena Studios in Athens, marking it as the studio’s first major production.

Blumhouse has high hopes for this film, especially after some recent releases, like Wolf Man, underperformed. Originally slated for January, The Woman in the Yard shifted to March to avoid clashing with other projects.

Jason Blum praised Deadwyler’s performance, saying, “Danielle does an incredible job selling this circumstance, which if I told you what it was, it would be hard to believe. It seems like a fairy tale. She really grounds it and the more grounded you are and the more involved in the emotional plight of the characters in your movie, the scarier the movie is.”

This movie kicks off a busy 2025 for Blumhouse, with sequels like M3GAN 2.0 and The Black Phone 2 also on the way. The Woman in the Yard blends psychological horror with a tight-knit cast, focusing on Ramona’s fight to protect her kids from an unclear but menacing force. The trailers keep the plot vague, leaving viewers guessing about the woman’s true nature and what she wants from this grieving family.

This looks like a solid addition to Blumhouse’s lineup. The trailers do a great job of setting up a spooky vibe without giving too much away, which is perfect for a horror flick. Deadwyler’s a strong pick for the lead—she’s got the chops to carry the emotional weight and make the scares hit harder. I’m curious if it’ll lean more into supernatural twists or stick to a slow, creepy buildup.
