‘Five Nights at Freddy’s 2’ Is Finally Heading To Netflix, And The Wait Is Almost Over
Horror fans with a soft spot for killer animatronics have had a lot to celebrate over the past year, and the buzz around Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza shows no signs of slowing down. What started as a scrappy indie horror game from Scott Cawthon has turned into one of the most reliably profitable franchises in modern horror, pulling in devoted fans who show up no matter what critics say.
That loyalty paid off again with the sequel, which hit theaters on December 5, 2025 and quickly proved it could hold its own at the box office. The film opened to a massive $63 million during its post Thanksgiving debut weekend and eventually grossed an impressive $239.6 million globally, an especially strong result considering its budget was estimated to be between just $36 million and $51 million.
Now the news fans have been waiting for is official. ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s 2’ is set to make its Netflix US streaming debut on August 3, 2026, giving the animatronic terrors a second life on one of the world’s biggest streaming platforms. For a movie that only left theaters a few months ago, that is a remarkably quick turnaround.
The reason for the fast timeline comes down to how Universal structures its streaming deals. Instead of moving straight from theaters to Netflix, Universal titles first head to Peacock for an exclusive four month window, and ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s 2’ did exactly that with its Peacock debut landing on April 3, 2026. Once it arrives on Netflix, the film is expected to stay on the service for about ten months before eventually rotating back to Peacock.
Critics and audiences remain split on the sequel, which is part of what makes its box office run so notable. The movie scored just 17% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, making it one of the lowest rated horror releases of the year, yet audiences rated it far more positively, holding an 82% score on the Popcornmeter thanks to deeper lore and plenty of fan service.
Story wise, the sequel picks up one year after the events of the first film, following Abby as she sneaks away to reconnect with her animatronic friends and uncovers dark secrets about where Freddy’s true origins lie. Josh Hutcherson and Elizabeth Lail return as Mike and Vanessa, doing everything they can to keep the truth from Mike’s little sister Abby, played by Piper Rubio, with the cast rounded out by Mckenna Grace, Freddy Carter, Matthew Lillard, Skeet Ulrich, and Wayne Knight.
The franchise clearly isn’t done yet either. A third film is already in the works and currently slated for an October 2027 release, positioned as the conclusion to the trilogy, meaning Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy will be sticking around a while longer.
