Florence Pugh has been named Best Actress at the 2025 Astra Midseason Movie Awards for her role in Thunderbolts*. The news came alongside a big night for the film Sinners, which took home several top awards including Best Picture, Best Actor for Michael B. Jordan, and Best Supporting Actress and Actor for Hailee Steinfeld and Miles Caton, as shared by The Astra Awards on Twitter.

In Thunderbolts, Pugh plays Yelena Belova, a character she clearly feels strongly about. Before the movie premiered, she made headlines by insisting on doing a daring jump from Merdeka 118, the world’s second-tallest building, without using stunt doubles.

Marvel Studios was worried about safety and insurance, but Pugh pushed hard for it. She even spoke directly with Marvel’s Kevin Feige to get permission. She explained her choice by saying, “It’s our duty as actors to protect and defend your characters and to put in the life. There’s so much that’s on the page, but it’s really what you add to it in the last 20% that actually makes every character that any actor plays.” She added that she was glad to bring her own personal touch to the role.

Critics have responded well to both the film and Pugh’s work. Besides the Astra win, Thunderbolts is also up for several awards at the Critics’ Choice Super Awards, including Best Superhero Movie and Best Actress for Pugh. The film has even been nominated at the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards for Favorite Movie, with Pugh in the running for Favorite Butt-Kicker.

Florence Pugh’s performance in Thunderbolts* is getting lots of attention and praise. This award shows how much her dedication and talent have made a difference in the superhero world.
