Fortnite is adding a new feature called Sidekicks. These are small companions that follow you during your games. Epic Games, the studio behind Fortnite, says Sidekicks will be able to join players in Battle Royale, LEGO® Fortnite, developer-made experiences, and other parts of the game.

They don’t affect gameplay but react to what’s happening around you, making the experience more fun.

Players can customize the look of most Sidekicks once after getting them. The change is permanent, so Epic Games suggests checking how they look before confirming. The first Sidekick to arrive in the game will be Peels. Players can unlock Peels through the next Battle Pass, starting on November 1.

Sidekicks can also earn Sidekick Points (SP) while following players. These points allow them to unlock their own cosmetic items. Epic Games said more Sidekicks, including Bonesy, Spike, and Lil’ Raptor, will be available in the Shop on November 7.

Players who already own the Bonesy Back Bling will automatically receive the Bonesy Sidekick, though it may take a little time to appear in their Locker. The studio also teased that cat-themed Sidekicks will arrive soon.

“Sidekicks are friendly cosmetics that stay by your side,” Epic Games explained. “Bring a Sidekick with you into Fortnite Battle Royale, Fortnite Save the World, Fortnite Festival (your Sidekick will stay backstage), LEGO® Fortnite, and developer-made experiences.” Sidekicks only appear in experiences where the Island Developer allows them, and they can’t take damage or give players an advantage. Players can also interact with them using Sidekick Emotes.

Sidekicks are a fun way to make Fortnite feel more lively. They add personality to the game without changing how it’s played.
