Four ‘9-1-1: Lone Star’ Stars Want to Join New Spinoff or Main Show After Series Finale

9-1-1: Lone Star has officially ended after five seasons, but fans may not have seen the last of its characters. The Fox series, which was a spinoff of 9-1-1, has wrapped up, but four of its main actors have shared their interest in appearing in either the main 9-1-1 show or a new spinoff that’s coming soon.
The decision to end 9-1-1: Lone Star came after the show’s move to ABC from Fox. The reason behind this change wasn’t because of bad ratings, but due to issues with Disney’s ownership of the show’s studio. Ryan Murphy, the creator of the show, explained that while they loved Lone Star, the financials didn’t work out, especially with the show being on a Fox network owned by Disney.
But Murphy teased that a new show in a new city will be coming soon. He didn’t reveal the details but promised it would be fun!
Even though 9-1-1: Lone Star is over, four of the main actors have said they would love to continue their roles in the 9-1-1 universe.
Rob Lowe, who played Owen Strand, said he’s open to returning but would need to see the story and how the show is made. He’s only interested if it has the same high-quality production as Lone Star.
I never say never to anything. I learned that a long time ago. It’s always a function of, what’s the story, what’s the script, who’s doing it, how good is the show? Is it a cheaper, wannabe version, or is it going to continue to have the kind of production value hallmarks that we’re really proud of, that we did on our show? Who knows? We’ll have to see what everything looks like.
Gina Torres, who played Tommy Vega, would be happy to reprise her role. She shared that it was an honor to play Tommy and appreciated how the character was well-rounded, showing strength, vulnerability, and humor. She’s grateful for the opportunity and would love to return.
It’s been my honor to play this character, to play Tommy. I really, at first I was just happy to get a job. You guys brought me on in the middle of the pandemic when we didn’t even know what the industry was going to look like, and I was so grateful to be reunited with an old friend who I have nothing but the most respect for, in Tim. And then, bringing Rashad into my life and into my world, it wasn’t just a job. It was an opportunity to create family and really incredible magical moments on screen, and to play.
And I really cannot stress stress this enough, especially in these times — like I said, I’ve been doing this a long time and it is very rare that a woman, and a woman of color, gets to play a character that is so fully formed, that is so layered, that has depth and can show you her humor and her vulnerability and her strength, and also be allowed to fail and come back. So for that, I will always be eternally grateful. And yes, more please.”
Ronen Rubenstein, who played Tyler Kennedy “TK” Strand, said he would say yes if asked to return. He thinks it would be hard to turn down the opportunity.
Rafael L. Silva, who portrayed Carlos Reyes, also expressed his interest in returning. He believes there are still many opportunities to expand the world of their characters and make even more amazing moments on screen.
