After four seasons, The Cleaning Lady is officially over. Fox has canceled the popular crime drama, putting an end to any hope for a season 5. Fans who’ve followed Thony De La Rosa’s wild journey since 2022 won’t be seeing what comes next.

The show, which was based on an Argentinian series, followed Thony (played by Élodie Yung), a Cambodian-Filipino former surgeon who works as a cleaning lady to support her family.

But her life changes when she witnesses a murder and ends up working with a dangerous criminal organization. That was the hook, and fans stuck around to see just how far she’d go.

Things started to look shaky as soon as season 4 began airing. Ratings weren’t great, and behind the scenes, there had already been some major setbacks. The biggest one was the heartbreaking death of actor Adan Canto in early 2024. He played Arman Morales, a key character and Thony’s closest ally. Canto died of cancer, and his absence left a big hole in the story.

Even though season 4 pushed ahead without him, and the finale set up a bold direction for Thony, with her taking control of a cartel and facing off against enemies like Ramona — Fox didn’t see a future for the series. In June, they confirmed the cancellation.

Some fans hoped that maybe a streamer or another network could step in and save the show. But according to TVLine, that’s not happening. The outlet wrote: “The chances are, alas, zero. I am assured that The Cleaning Lady‘s run has come to an end, and no new home is being sought.”

The show had a mix of reviews over the years. On Rotten Tomatoes, it landed a 60% score from critics with an average rating of 6.8 out of 10. The consensus read: “Élodie Yung is winning as a resourceful protagonist in over her head, but The Cleaning Lady needs to polish its clichés into something more substantial if it wants to truly sparkle.” On Metacritic, the score was 53 out of 100, which means reviews were pretty average.

So that’s it, no more Thony, no more twists, and no season 5. The story ends with her in charge, but with no one left to see what happens next.
