Fans have finally been given a new look at The Mandalorian and Grogu, the upcoming Star Wars movie directed by Jon Favreau. The film, which Favreau co-wrote with longtime Star Wars creative partner Dave Filoni, will bring Pedro Pascal back as Din Djarin alongside his small but powerful companion, Grogu.

Lucasfilm originally had plans for a fourth season of The Mandalorian on Disney+, but those ideas were put on hold after the 2023 Hollywood strikes.

During that time, the studio shifted its focus and decided that Din and Grogu’s next adventure would play out on the big screen instead of streaming. The project was officially announced in January 2024.

Production on the movie began in California in mid-2024 and wrapped before the end of the year. The film will continue the story from the hit Disney+ series while also introducing new characters to the galaxy.

Sigourney Weaver joins the cast as Ward, a leader of the New Republic’s Adelphi Rangers. Jeremy Allen White takes on the role of Rotta the Hutt, the son of Jabba the Hutt. Jonny Coyne appears as an Imperial Warlord leading remnants of the Empire.

The new trailer, recently revealed, teases the return of the Mandalorian and Grogu, while confirming appearances from familiar faces like Garazeb “Zeb” Orrelios from Star Wars Rebels. Members of the Anzellan species, who made a splash in The Mandalorian, will also return.

The Mandalorian and Grogu is scheduled to hit theaters in the United States on May 22, 2026.

Moving the story from streaming to the big screen is a smart choice. Din and Grogu have become fan favorites, and their bond feels big enough to carry a full movie. Plus, with names like Sigourney Weaver and Jeremy Allen White joining the cast, the film seems ready to mix nostalgia with fresh energy.
