Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End has perfectly combined Japanese fiction’s artistry with Western fiction’s tropes to create a wonderful fantasy work that is extremely popular worldwide, and for a good reason. While the protagonists are the story’s focus, in this article, we will discuss something different – a species of monster from the series known as the Einsam. One Einsam appeared early in the series, where the monster was shown and described and where we saw its powers. In this article, we are going to give you a more detailed insight into the Einsam and explain why they are among the most dangerous monsters in the series in general.

  • Article Breakdown:
  • The Einsam are a species of monster seen in Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End. So far, as of the time of writing, only one Einsam has been seen in the series, although they were mentioned more than once.
  • The Einsam are long-haired phantom-like creatures that somewhat resemble a Banshee. They feed exclusively on humans, and they are able to mimic the dead, thereby luring humans into their trap.
  • An Einsam attacked Frieren and Fern, but since Frieren recognized the illusion immediately, she used her magic to effectively eliminate the dangerous monster and kill it.

The Einsam are strange and frightening creatures

The world of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End is one of the most beautiful and magical fantasy worlds seen in the animanga lore. The landscapes and the numerous magical creatures seen in the series are wonderful. In this article, we will talk about a specific type of creature, a monster to be precise, that we’ve seen in the series. This creature looks like a phantom and is as frightening as it sounds. It is called Einsam, and in this article, we are going to tell you all that is known about these strange creatures.

The Einsam are a species of monsters seen in Frieren: Beyond Journey’s end. They are exceptionally dangerous and are among the most frightening species known in the series. They somewhat resemble a manic Banshee: they have a dress-like lower body, a zombie-like upper body and a face that only has eyes, but no mouth or nose, and long, white hair. The shadowy, dress-like lower body is black, while the torso is greyish, like that of a corpse. You can check out what an Einsam looks like for yourselves:

Creepy, right? Well, as their appearance suggests, the Einsam are truly powerful and dangerous creatures. They seem to be solitary creatures, and even their name means “lonely” in German, so there is a chance that they attack because they feel lonely, although they want to eliminate that loneliness in the strangest way imaginable. Although we’ve seen one, they don’t seem to be particularly common creatures.

They prey upon travelers in forests and on roads, and Frieren herself commented that they are particularly present in the Northen Plateau. This is why first-class Mages are necessary for anyone to travel those areas, as weaker Mages are not able to defeat an Einsam; Frieren was, of course, able to do it, but Frieren is one of the strongest Mages in the lore.

So, why are these creatures so dangerous? We have told you about the biology of the Einsam, so it is now time to tell you why they are so dangerous. The information we have is scarce. We have to admit that, as we have only seen one Einsam in the series, but as always, we will do our best to provide you with the most resourceful text online.

The Einsam prey on humans. Not all monsters in the series do, but Einsam are among those who prey exclusively on humans, which is why they are so notorious in the series. Their special power is basically an illusion. They create a mist around their prey, enclosing them inside, and they are then able to recreate the spirits of the dead; they don’t know whom to create, but the spirits take the form of someone who is very dear to the prey. In the case of Fern, it was Heiter, her mentor and caretaker, while in Frieren’s case, it was Himmel, whom she had a very special relationship with.

It is unknown how they then kill and consume their prey, seeing how they do not have a mouth, but maybe it is better left unexplored. Frieren managed to kill one with a powerful spell, so they are not invincible, but most people die before even realizing they’re inside Einsam’s illusion, which is why they are so dangerous.
