‘From’ Finally Gets Its Big Moment as MGM+’s Horror Hit Takes Over Nielsen After Arriving on Netflix
For years, ‘From’ was the kind of show its fans pushed on friends with a near-religious devotion, a creepy, mystery-filled horror series that stayed mostly under the mainstream radar. Its recent move to Netflix has changed that fast, and the streaming numbers show it.
The MGM+ series came into its Netflix debut with a lot of momentum already. MGM+ renewed ‘From’, the most-viewed series in the network’s history, for a fifth and final season, and its 10-episode fourth season premiered on MGM+ on April 19 and wrapped on June 28. Then, Netflix picked up Seasons 1 through 3 as part of a limited-time licensing window starting October 19.
That gamble paid off right away after the first 3 seasons hit Netflix on October 19; ‘From’ racked up 1.65 billion minutes across 30 available episodes during that week, landing as the week’s No. 1 show on streaming, which is the largest weekly total for any acquired series this year.
What makes the result more impressive is who ‘From’ had to beat. Right behind it was ‘The Diplomat’, also on Netflix, which added 200 million minutes in its second week to reach 1.19 billion minutes and land as the No. 2 overall streaming program and the No. 1 streaming original, since ‘From’ counts as an acquired title.
The rest of the top 10 was full of big names too. ‘The Terminal List’ placed 5th with 830 million minutes, ‘Crystal Lake’ came 7th with 790 million minutes, and ‘Nobody Wants This’ finished 10th with 725 million minutes.

The breakdown of who tuned in is just as interesting as the total. According to TheWrap, 40% of the show’s watch time came from Hispanic and Black viewers, at 27% and 18%, respectively.
The total probably undersells the real audience, too. Nielsen’s streaming ratings only count viewing on TV sets, leave out minutes watched on computers or mobile devices, and only measure U.S. audiences.
None of this comes as a shock to longtime fans. Critics have given the John Griffin-created show a 96% on Rotten Tomatoes and audiences a 76%, and Season 3 was the best-reviewed installment yet, earning a perfect score from critics. It also won Best Horror Television Series: Network/Cable at the Saturn Awards.

The show centers on Boyd Stevens (Harold Perrineau), who becomes the town’s self-appointed sheriff after his arrival at the start of the series. Its way of setting up and slowly drawing out mysteries has earned it comparisons to ‘Lost’.
Viewers who binge through the Netflix seasons will hit a wall. Season 4 isn’t part of the Netflix release, so anyone who finishes the first 3 seasons there will need MGM+ to keep going.
At least the show’s reach is still growing. Starting November 24, ‘From’ is set to stream in many more Netflix regions around the world, including the United Kingdom, and in many of those places it will be the first time it’s available at all.

The surge comes as the story heads toward its end. Season 5 started production in Halifax, Nova Scotia, on July 6 and is scheduled to wrap on November 27, ahead of a premiere on MGM+.
The creators have teased that the final season will put character drama ahead of answering every unresolved mystery. For a series that spent years building a passionate cult following, a flood of new viewers right before its final run is good timing.
