‘Game of Thrones’ Cast Had a Priceless Reactions When Asked About Final Season
It’s been over six years since the last season of Game of Thrones aired, but fans still haven’t stopped talking about it. Recently, people have been posting old clips and pictures showing the cast’s hilarious reactions when they first read the final season’s script. Looking back now, those moments seem even funnier because of how the season turned out.

The final season wasn’t received as warmly as the earlier ones. While the show had been praised for years, the last set of episodes got mixed reviews from both fans and critics. On Rotten Tomatoes, it’s actually the lowest-rated season in the series.
People enjoyed the acting, the production design, and the music, but many didn’t like how short the season was or the choices made for certain characters and storylines. A lot of viewers felt it was a disappointing end to one of TV’s biggest shows.
Still, the season made history at the 71st Primetime Emmy Awards by getting 32 nominations — more than any other single season of TV, and winning 12, including Outstanding Drama Series. Peter Dinklage, who played Tyrion Lannister, also won for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series.
Some of the cast later opened up about how they felt. Emilia Clarke said that she struggled when she read how her character Daenerys would end. She remembered meeting Beyoncé and thinking, “Oh, my God, my absolute idol in life is saying that she likes me, and I know for a fact that by the end of this season she’s going to hate me. All I wanted to scream was ‘Please, please still like me even though my character turns into a mass-killing dictator!’”
Clarke said Daenerys’s shift “comes out of nowhere” and she wished there had been more quiet, in-depth scenes with other characters.
Kit Harington, who played Jon Snow, told reporters at the time that he didn’t care about the negative reviews. He said, “Whatever critic spends half an hour writing about this season and makes their judgement on it, in my head they can go f**** themselves. I know how much work was put into this… Now if people feel let down by [this final season], I don’t give a f**** — because everyone tried their hardest.” He also admitted he was a bit disappointed Jon didn’t get to kill the Night King, but he thought it was a great twist that Arya did it.
Nathalie Emmanuel, who played Missandei, said she was heartbroken when she found out her character would die. “The fact that she died in chains when she was a slave her whole life, that for me was a pungent cut,” she said in an interview. She also wished there had been more time to show her character’s intelligence and her close bond with Daenerys before her death.
Conleth Hill, who played Varys, told Entertainment Weekly that he was frustrated with how the last two seasons handled his character. “If he was such an intelligent man and he had such resources, how come he didn’t know about things?” he asked.
Lena Headey, who played Cersei, said she had mixed feelings about her death scene and originally hoped for a bigger fight. But after talking it over with Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, she appreciated the way Cersei and Jaime died together.
Other cast members like Sophie Turner, Maisie Williams, and Gwendoline Christie also spoke about the changes they didn’t expect. Some wished for different character interactions, while others were surprised at how certain arcs ended.
