Fans of the world of Westeros have even more reason to keep their eyes on the horizon. Following the recent success and debut of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, HBO is reportedly doubling down on its commitment to George R.R. Martin’s sprawling universe. According to recent reports, the network has a deep bench of spinoffs currently in the pipeline, ranging from animated adventures to live-action sequels that could fundamentally shift the timeline of the franchise.

Among the most discussed projects is an animated series focusing on Lord Corlys Velaryon, the legendary seafaring adventurer known as the Sea Snake. AKOTSK, which is based on Game of Thrones author Martin’s three Dunk and Egg novellas (one season per book), is the second GoT prequel to get a series order after House of the Dragon.

n the meanwhile, HBO has developed a slew of other offshoots, with a number being rumored to be currently in the works, including a Jon Snow and Arya Stark sequel written by Quoc Dang Tran; an animated Sea Snake project Nine Voyages, with Genndy Tartakovsky said to be attached, as well as 10,000 Ships written by Eboni Booth and Aegon’s Conquest penned by Mattson TomlinDeadline reports.

The choice to move the Sea Snake project, titled Nine Voyages, into the realm of animation was a strategic one. George R.R. Martin previously noted that a live-action version would have been prohibitively expensive due to the need for a new port every week and constant sea-based sequences.

With Genndy Tartakovsky, the visionary behind Primal and Samurai Jack, reportedly attached to the project, fans can expect a visually stunning exploration of the far-flung reaches of the known world that have yet to be seen on screen.

Steve Toussaint, the actor who brought Corlys Velaryon to life in House of the Dragon, has been highly active during the production of the show’s upcoming third season, which is slated for a summer 2026 release.

Toussaint has expressed great pride in the character’s legacy, often discussing the “Great Voyages” that defined Corlys’ youth and amassed the wealth that made House Velaryon a superpower. Outside of Westeros, Toussaint has been involved in several UK-based stage productions and remains a vocal advocate for diverse representation in the fantasy genre.

The broader Game of Thrones slate for 2026 is looking particularly robust. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms made its comforting debut on January 18, offering a smaller-scale, more earnest look at the Seven Kingdoms through the eyes of Ser Duncan the Tall and his squire, Egg. Additionally, work continues on Aegon’s Conquest, written by Mattson Tomlin, which is being developed as both a potential drama series and a “Dune-sized” feature film for Warner Bros., promising to show the violent rise of the Targaryen dynasty.

Do you think the shift to animation for projects like “Nine Voyages” is the best way to explore the more expensive and magical corners of George R.R. Martin’s world? Share your thoughts in the comments.
