This article will discuss who Emiko is and what happened to her.

Note: Beware of spoilers of the ‘Gamera: Rebirth’ show!

Dr. Emiko was the scientist of the Eustace Foundation

Interestingly enough, we meet Emiko in the show’s first episode, when she meets Boco, Joe, Junichi, and Brody after Gamera saves them from Gyaos, the bird-like kaiju that devours people.

Dr. Emiko introduces herself as the scientist of the Eustace Foundation, a research facility that explores prehistoric fossils and findings across Japan. They stumble upon a nest of Gyaos kaiju, who eat the researchers and multiply.

Emiko pretends she cares for the children in the beginning.

In the meantime, the elementary school children, Joe, Boco, and Junichi, are best friends with different ways of living. They meet Brody, a popular guy who bullies the kids. However, when Gyaos attacks Tokyo, children must hide their differences to survive.

The best-friends trio helps Brody from Gyaos and eventually gets saved by Gamera, an ancient kaiju that seemingly protects humans from threats.

Gamera sacrifices its life to save humanity.

Boco immediately feels connected with the good beast, but just as they think everything is over, Emiko arrives with Dr. Tazaki, who also works for the Eustace Foundation. They explain that children need to go with them to explore Gamera’s interaction with them and why it saved them.

As they are settled within the Eustace Foundation headquarters, children soon realize that there is something rotten behind the doors of the powerful corporation. After being transferred to the Foundation’s Yonaguni Island Mining Base, where another kaiju attacks the children, Emiko risks her life to save them, earning their trust immediately.

However, that trust and “sacrifice” is a farce that leads Emiko to her ultimate villainy of ‘Gamera: Rebirth.’

What happened to Emiko in the ‘Gamera: Rebirth’ show?

After saving the children, the esteemed scientist realizes that she needs to quicken up her work to get to her ultimate goal – she wants to awaken Viras, an ancient, powerful monster that will ultimately attack and eat people.

Emiko dies in the ‘Gamera: Rebirth’ show.

The control of the human population is the main goal of the Eustace Foundation, which wanted to use the kaiju to eat people and decrease the numbers on the planet. However, Emiko’s family history gets the better of her, and she uses the research to awaken the monster and release it onto Earth to destroy the Council of the Eustace Foundation together with her Aunt.

Emiko’s aunt is also the head of the Eustace Foundation, and the scientist decides to go against the facility and kill her Aunt. Emiko wants to revive Viras, feed its children, and make it eat everything in its way.

Of course, Emiko will use the shuttle to escape to the Moon after unleashing a monster on everyone. However, that doesn’t happen because Dr. Tazaki and one of the workers, Dario, see that Emiko lost her mind and decide to go against her.

Kaiju Viras almost destroys the whole world after being revived by Emiko.

Dr. Takaza helps the children and, together with Dario, aboard the shuttle to the Moon. Unfortunately for everyone, Viras is revived and damages the shuttle. After debating what they must do to survive, Joe saves his friends and Dr. Takaza by ejecting the escape pod into Earth’s atmosphere.

In the meantime, Gamera arrives and fights the S-Gyaos, the evil kaiju, which the foundation uses to inject Gamera with special viruses to control the monster. It succeeds, but not before releasing the last destructive laser beam into Moon’s atmosphere and killing the foundation’s Council.

What happened to Emiko? After barely surviving the destruction of the building, a baby Gyaos arrives and eats her alive. It was quite a fitting ending to her life in the show and a deserving one as well.
