Gareth Edwards Reportedly Eyed To Direct ‘Dune 4’

Dune: Part Two was a huge hit in 2024, earning high scores from critics (92%) and audiences (95%) on Rotten Tomatoes and making over $700 million worldwide. It continues the story from Dune: Part One, which won six Oscars.

Director Denis Villeneuve has confirmed that the next movie, Dune: Messiah, is already in the works. While people thought filming would start next year, a new report says it will actually begin this June.

Villeneuve has previously confirmed that Dune: Messiah will be his final Dune film, but that doesn’t mean Frank Herbert’s story will end on the big screen. While Dune 4 has yet to be officially greenlit, industry insider Daniel Richtman claims on his Patreon that a new director is already being considered to replace Villeneuve—though no formal decisions have been made.

Reportedly, Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros. are considering Gareth Edwards as a potential director for Dune 4. However, it’s still early, and there’s no confirmation that official talks have started yet.

Edwards is best known for directing Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, a critically acclaimed Star Wars spin-off, and Godzilla (2014), which helped launch the MonsterVerse franchise. He also directed The Creator (2023), a visually stunning sci-fi film about AI and humanity.

If he joins Dune 4, his experience with epic sci-fi and large-scale action could bring something special to the series.
