15 Best General Grievous Quotes

Although Star Wars offered several truly mesmerizing antagonists, none of them are so unique as the lightsaber-wielding cyborg General Grievous. When he first appeared in Revenge of the Sith, audiences were extremely satisfied and his backstory was expanded in the prequel television series, where we really saw how brutal and powerful Grievous really was. Now, in order to commemorate the character’s legacy, we have dedicated today’s article to him.

This article is going to include a list of the 15 best and most memorable quotes by General Grievous, as they have appeared in the Star Wars canon. We have found some great lines from the movies, as well as the TV shows so we hope you’ll enjoy them!

15. “It won’t be long before the armies of the Republic track us here. I am sending all of you to the Mustafar system in the Outer Rim. It is a volcanic planet which generates a great deal of scanning interference. You will be safe there.”

Grievous was quite loyal to the Imperial cause and he obeyed, practically without any questioning, Palpatine’s orders. He was also quite loyal to Dooku, but not enough to betray Darth Sidious. This quote demonstrates his complete alliance to Palpatine’s goals, but also his complete trust in him, as he did not know that Palpatine would send Anakin to kill the Separatists.

14. “I’m no errand boy. I am not in this war for Dooku’s politics. I am the leader of the most powerful droid army the galaxy has ever seen”

Despite being inferior to Count Dooku, a very powerful Force user, Grievous, who had been trained in lightsaber combat, had a very high opinion of himself. He was aware of his role but also his might. Unlike The Phantom Menace, where the Droid Army was led by the incompetent Separatists, Grievous was a truly brutal and ruthless leader that the Droid Army needed to become an actual threat.

13. “Be thankful, Viceroy, that you have not found yourself in my grip. Your ship is waiting.”

Although he was fulfilling Palpatine’s orders and sending the Separatists to Musfatar, Grievous never actually lost his brutal personality and he openly threatened Nute Gunray before sending him away. Gunray was, of course, a coward so he was certainly afraid of Grievous, but knowing what the general looks like, can you really blame the guy?

12. “You fool. I have been trained in your Jedi Arts… by Count Dooku.”

Count Dooku was among the best lightsaber users among the Jedi and he passed on his skills to Grievous, who wielded an amazing four lightsabers at once. Grievous became a truly amazing swordsman and he could hold his own against both Anakin and Obi-Wan (although he did lose to the latter in the end). The Jedi underestimated him and that was usually their own mistake.

11. “That wasn’t much of a rescue.”

Grievous, believe it or not, also had a humorous side to him. Okay, it was actually taunting and quite mean, but someone would certainly laugh at one or two of his lines. This is an example of such a line, a reference to Anakin and Obi-Wan failing to rescue the Chancellor; Anakin and Obi-Wan did not know that they were saving their non-kidnapped enemy, which makes Grievous’ reply even more ironic.

10. “Crush them! Make them suffer!”

This one is pretty self-explanatory in terms of meaning but it illustrates, like some other quotes on this list, how ruthless Grievous was. Mercy was something almost completely foreign to General Grievous and the only way he knew was brutality. There was no other way of defeating an opponent but to crush them and make them suffer.

9. “Anakin Skywalker, I expected someone with your reputation to be a little… older.”

As we said, Grievous knew how to be funny from time to time and his taunting of Anakin Skywalker, his nemesis from the Clone Wars, is another example of such behavior. Grievous didn’t like Anakin’s comeback, though, which goes to show that he wasn’t a sport and that he couldn’t handle a joke directed towards him. But, is that really relevant?

8. “Murderer? Is it murder to rid the galaxy of you Jedi filth?”

Another prominent trait of General Grievous was his hatred for the Jedi. Okay, the Sith disliked the Jedi, but they showed some respect for them (e.g. Dooku and Palpatine towards Yoda, Dooku towards Obi-Wan, etc.). Grievous, on the other hand, detested the Jedi so much that he not only wanted to kill all of them but he used every possible opportunity to call them filth, scum, or the likes. Yeah, no anger management issues there.

7. “Army or not… You must realize, Kenobi… that you are doomed.”

As we mentioned above, Grievous had a very high opinion of himself. He not only thought he could best the Jedi, he was sure that his army was so powerful that no one could really defeat them. Now, Kenobi was the one with the army here, but Grievous still did not care as he was so certain he would be able to defeat his rival.

6. “I will deal with this Jedi slime myself.”

Remember the anger management issues? Well, this is another example of Grievous trash talking the Jedi. Maybe he’d be a good addition to an NBA team, eh? Well, Grievous really thought that he could defeat and outwit the Jedi and he was close, but as fate would have it, he was never close enough. That is why he ultimately perished at the hands of Obi-Wan Kenobi.

5. “Time to abandon ship.”

While he was not a coward, Grievous did prefer staying alive rather than sacrificing himself for the cause. If he would see a dangerous situation where he knew there were no chances for a victory, Grievous would simply run away. Cowardly? Possibly, but for him, it was a matter of survival. He did not run away from a fight, but a ship on its way to complete obliteration is a good place to run away from.

4. “Your lightsabers will make a fine addition to my collection!”

He had four. As we’ve seen. But he seemed to collect them. Passionately. Okay, he had to kill Jedi to do it, but he was a very passionate collector and you have to give him that. The eagerness with which he expanded his collection was truly impressive.

3. “The future. A future where there are no Jedi.”

Referring back to #8, this quote shows Grievous’ ideal world, a world without Jedi. Of course, in this future, he is the one who killed them all and he certainly wants to take credit for that.

2. “How does it feel to die?”

The Gungans didn’t have a great time meeting Grievous. The brutal General simply took care of his opponents and while killing one of the Gungan soldiers in The Clone Wars series, he asked him this very question. Needless to say that he did not really get an answer.

1. “General Kenobi, you are a bold one!”

For all those who’ve seen Star Wars and who are fans of the franchise, this quote needs no further introduction. That is why we have the video.
