George Clooney Claps Back at Trump: ‘We’ll Make America Great Again—Starting in November’
George Clooney responded to President Donald Trump’s recent social media comments about the actor’s decision to take French citizenship, suggesting the upcoming midterm elections could help steer the country in a better direction.
Trump posted on Truth Social on New Year’s Eve, calling Clooney’s move “Good News!” and referencing the actor’s 2024 op-ed in which he urged President Biden to step aside.
In his post, Trump also criticized Clooney’s political involvement and movies, writing, “Clooney got more publicity for politics than he did for his very few, and totally mediocre, movies. He wasn’t a movie star at all, he was just an average guy who complained, constantly, about common sense in politics. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
Clooney, long known as a vocal critic of Trump, responded by echoing the president’s own slogan, but with a political twist. “I totally agree with the current president. We have to make America great again. We’ll start in November,” Clooney said, suggesting that he expects Democrats could reclaim the House and possibly the Senate in the upcoming midterms.
The actor and his family recently gained French citizenship. Clooney has praised France’s privacy laws, saying they protect his children from paparazzi and intrusive media attention.
In a recent interview with Variety, Clooney reflected on his past friendship with Trump. “I knew him very well,” he said. “He used to call me a lot, and he tried to help me get into a hospital once to see a back surgeon. I’d see him out at clubs and at restaurants. He’s a big goofball. Well, he was. That all changed.”
Clooney also criticized U.S. news networks like ABC and CBS for settling lawsuits filed by Trump, saying they should have pushed back more forcefully. “If CBS and ABC had challenged those lawsuits and said, ‘Go f*** yourself,’ we wouldn’t be where we are in the country. That’s simply the truth,” he said.
