George Clooney is bringing back the Ocean’s franchise with a new movie, but this time with a fresh twist. Instead of a simple nostalgia reboot, the film will focus on what it’s like to pull off a heist when the crew is older.

Clooney said he was inspired by the 2017 film Going in Style, about a group of aging criminals, and he wants the story to show how experience can make up for lost youth.

The returning cast includes Brad Pitt, Don Cheadle, Matt Damon, and Julia Roberts. Clooney shared that the movie will explore how the characters work around their physical limitations while still using their cleverness.

“There was something about the idea that we’re too old to do what we used to do, but we’re still smart enough to know how to get away with something, that just appeals to me,” Clooney said. “They’ve lost a step, and they need to find a way to work around their limitations.”

Plans are already in motion, with the cast scouting locations and shooting expected to begin next October. The film will be produced as a joint venture between Warner Bros. Pictures and Clooney’s Smokehouse Pictures.

The idea of a sequel to Ocean’s Thirteen has been around for years. Early discussions started after Bernie Mac’s passing, with Steven Soderbergh previously exploring concepts for the film. Over the years, Matt Damon and Don Cheadle expressed interest in returning, and by December 2023, Clooney confirmed that a script had been completed and that he was involved.

In 2024 and this year, reports surfaced about potential directors, including Edward Berger and David Leitch, with Damon and Casey Affleck also expected to return. Clooney confirmed that the budget is finalized and that Roberts and Cheadle will reprise their roles, along with other familiar faces from the series.
