Glen Powell Talks About Being the Next James Bond
Glen Powell has spoken out about the idea of becoming the next James Bond, and he’s not holding back. According to a recent report, Powell was mentioned as a possible candidate for Bond 26, alongside names like Tom Holland and Aaron Taylor-Johnson.
Right now, there’s we know nothing about the movie, title, or actor for Bond 26. Daniel Craig’s final film as the superspy, No Time To Die, came out in 2021, and since then, there’s been constant talk about who will wear the tuxedo next, alongside a plethora of British actors, Glen Powell found himself on the list as well.
But Powell is quick to shut down one particular suggestion: playing an American version of 007.
“I’m Texan. A Texan should not play James Bond,” Powell told THR. “My family and I joke around, I can play Jimmy Bond, but I should not be playing James Bond. Get an authentic Brit for that job. That’s who belongs in that tuxedo.”
The next James Bond film has been surrounded by mystery for years. Daniel Craig’s last outing as the superspy, No Time To Die, came out in 2021, and fans have been wondering who will step into the role ever since. There’s still no confirmed actor, title, or release date for Bond 26.
The franchise has seen big changes behind the scenes. Longtime producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson have stepped aside, and Amazon now has full creative control.
The next film will be produced by David Heyman and Amy Pascal. Pascal previously worked with Holland on the Spider-Man movies and also produced Casino Royale.
Denis Villeneuve, known for Dune and Prisoners, will direct, while Steven Knight, the creator of Peaky Blinders, is writing the script. With this new creative team in place, fans are curious about what direction the next Bond film will take.
Still, for Powell, the idea of being James Bond isn’t really on the table. He wants the role to stay true to its British roots, and he’s clear about it.
