‘Godfather of Harlem’ Season 4: Is It Renewed or Canceled?

Share:

Godfather of Harlem is an awesome show that’s loosely based on the true story of Ellsworth ‘Bumpy’ Johnson – a 1960s gangster and crime lord from Harlem, New York. It is one of MGM+’s most popular shows to date, and with Season 3 ending on such a high note, fans are naturally wondering: is Godfather of Harlem renewed or canceled for Season 4?

As of March 29, 2023, Godfather of Harlem has not been renewed nor canceled for Season 4. It’s hard to tell just how big of a viewership Season 3 had, seeing that MGM+ didn’t disclose audience numbers, but seeing how high the interest for the show is online, it’s hard to imagine that the show won’t be renewed for another season.

Additionally, Bumpy Johnson never had more enemies and things to handle than right now at the end of Season 3, so there’s more than enough story to explore. The interest is high, and the story is compelling, so I guess it’s just a matter of time before Godfather of Harlem is renewed for another season. That being said, let’s explore where the holdup might be.

Godfather of Harlem future

As of right now (March 29, 2023), Godfather of Harlem hasn’t been canceled or renewed for Season 4. The finale of Season 3 premiered just recently, on March 26, and initial reviews and ratings are as high as they have ever been for the show. The last two episodes of season 3 have a staggering 9.0/10 IMDb rating.

Therefore, it might be too early for MGM+ to confirm another season of action, but judging by reviews and ratings, it is bound to happen. It might also have something to do with the actors themselves – if Forest, Vincent, Lucy, Ilfenesh, Antoinette, and others are ready for another season, I can’t see why Season 4 of Godfather of Harlem wouldn’t happen.

That being said, MGM+ hasn’t disclosed viewership numbers (as far as I could find) for Season 3, so we can only guess that they were good based on the reviews. Also, Season 2 of Godfather of Harlem had record-breaking viewership numbers on EPIX/MGM+, so there’s really no reason to believe that Season 3 performed poorly.

In other words – Godfather of Harlem is awesome, and it will likely get another season of action sooner rather than later.

What is Godfather of Harlem about?

Godfather of Harlem is an epic crime drama series from MGM+, formerly known as EPIX. The show has three seasons of action and is loosely based on true events about Bumpy Johnson, a 1960s American gangster living in Harlem, New York.

The fellow’s real name is Ellsworth Raymond Johnson, but everybody knew him as Bumpy. In the show, Bumby was once a crime boss in Harlem, but then he was arrested on drug-related charges and has spent 11 years in prison.

Bumpy realized that his neighborhood was completely shambled when he got out of jail. So, he once again worked to take over dominion over the neighborhood, but it proved to be much harder than he anticipated. The division created over those past 11 years made it almost impossible for Bumpy to rule the entire Harlem again.

The streets were now mainly controlled by the Italian mob – the Genovese crime family. Bumpy took them head-on, but by Season 3, the game changed even further, and new players came to try and take their piece of the cake.

Those new players were mainly the Cuban mafia, whose headquarters were right next to Bumpy’s in Spanish Harlem. The Hispanic mobsters proved to be even more ruthless than the Italians. The war for dominion over Harlem put not just Bumpy’s life on the line but also his family, friends, and associates.

To make matters even worse, the CIA is right on Bumpy’s tail, and as things stand, things have never been harder and more complicated for Johnson to handle. That is exactly why it’s hard to imagine that Season 4 of Godfather of Harlem won’t happen sooner rather than later.
