‘Godzilla Minus One’ Director Takashi Yamazaki Confirms Meeting with Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, Is Possible Future Collaboration On the Horizon?

Godzilla Minus One has been well-received by fans for its fresh take on the classic monster, combining horror and emotional depth.
The film’s success, especially as a Japanese production, shows its broad appeal, even in markets dominated by Hollywood. Fans appreciate how it honors Godzilla’s legacy while introducing new ideas, avoiding the common trap of rehashing old material.
It wasn’t surprising when Takashi Yamazaki announced he’s working on a sequel to Godzilla Minus One, and the news was met with excitement. In a recent interview, he revealed he met with Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige. However, it seems the meeting didn’t lead to Yamazaki joining the MCU. While it would have been a great opportunity for Marvel, it’s unclear if Yamazaki would have been willing to follow Marvel’s creative direction.
When asked by announcer Shinsuke Kasai, who appeared on stage wearing a “Operation Kaishin” T-shirt that day, “I heard that Operation Kaishin is popular with foreigners,” he admitted, “Yes, they seem to like that kind of down-to-earth fighting style.” He also shared some surprising information, saying, “The president of Marvel told me, ‘Wadatsumi!’ (laughs). ‘Wadatsumi, good.'”
“The president of Marvel” is thought to refer to Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios, and Director Takashi Yamazaki continued, “He told me, ‘We’re all having meetings every day to see if we can make it happen like that.’ I think it’s just lip service.” He also revealed that he received a “great offer” from overseas, but turned it down in order to film a new Godzilla movie, although he couldn’t reveal the details.

In Marvel Comics, there are kaiju-inspired elements like the character “American Kaiju,” a giant, Godzilla-like creature. Created when Todd Ziller transforms, he has great strength and powers similar to the Hulk and Ant-Man.
Although not a main character, he’s battled powerful foes like symbiote dragons. There’s also potential for a Godzilla crossover, something DC has successfully done before.
