Godzilla Stomps Into Dodger Stadium as ‘Godzilla Minus Zero’ Hype Reaches Monster Levels
The King of the Monsters is gearing up for one of the most anticipated returns in modern kaiju history, and ‘Godzilla Minus Zero‘ is already making noise far beyond movie theaters. Written, directed, and with visual effects by Takashi Yamazaki, the film is the sequel to ‘Godzilla Minus One’, which won Best Visual Effects at the 96th Academy Awards.
Set in 1949, 2 years after the events of the previous film, the new chapter continues the story of the Shikishima family as they face an all-new calamity. Toho’s official synopsis doesn’t hold back, warning that a new threat strikes just as humanity clings to a hard-won peace and declaring that everything ends here.
That buildup took over Los Angeles on Thursday, September 24, when Godzilla made a special appearance at Dodger Stadium to promote the film. A clip shared by DiscussingFilm shows the iconic creature looming over the crowd on the stadium’s giant videoboard.
Fans had fun with the moment, with one reply jokingly asking who let him in there and pointing out that he’s literally dangerous. The appearance was part of Godzilla Minus Zero Night, presented by Toho for the Dodgers’ regular-season home finale against the San Diego Padres.
According to the Dodgers, the first 40,000 fans at the 7:10 p.m. game received a special ‘Godzilla Minus Zero’ bobblehead, and everyone in attendance was treated to a Godzilla-themed drone show after the final out. The team also ran several in-stadium activations in the days leading up to the event.

The team clearly saw the partnership as a fitting way to wrap up the home schedule. “This will be the perfect event to cap our 2026 regular season home schedule,” Lorenzo Sciarrino, the Dodgers’ Senior Vice President of Global Partnerships, said in the team’s official announcement.
Toho framed the collaboration in even bigger terms. Keiji Ota, the company’s senior managing executive officer and Chief Godzilla Officer, said the Dodgers and Godzilla share a legacy of stepping onto the world stage and predicted the stadium’s roar would echo across the globe, according to Outlook Respawn.

Returning stars include Ryunosuke Kamiki, Minami Hamabe, Yuki Yamada, Kuranosuke Sasaki, Mio Tanaka, Sakura Ando, and Hidetaka Yoshioka, with Jun Kunimura, Masami Nagasawa, and Min Tanaka joining the cast, according to Wikizilla. The film is produced by TOHO Studios and ROBOT.
It’s also shaping up to be a record-setting entry. Wikizilla notes that it will be the longest Japanese Godzilla film at 135 minutes and the first mainline Godzilla film since 1968’s ‘Destroy All Monsters’ in which the creature visits the United States.

The movie is also the first Godzilla film to receive an R rating from the Motion Picture Association. That suggests Yamazaki is pushing the scale and intensity even further than he did with ‘Minus One’. Fans won’t have to wait long. ‘Godzilla Minus Zero’ premieres at the New York Film Festival on September 26, followed by its theatrical release in Japan on November 3.

GKIDS will then release it in North America on November 6, which Wikizilla says is the fastest a Japanese Godzilla movie has ever received a wide release in America. After a night of drones, bobbleheads, and a towering cameo at Dodger Stadium, the countdown is officially on.
