We know that Son Goku, the protagonist of Akira Toriyama’s cult classic manga Dragon Ball, is one of the strongest characters in the history of fiction. The guy has grown a lot since his debut and the manga has devotedly followed his evolution from a whimsical child to one of the universe’s strongest warriors. But, even Goku is not invincible and there have been instances where he would lose in a fight. In this article, we are going to determine whether Son Goku is stronger than Granolah, a new character that recently debuted in the Dragon Ball Super manga.

Although Granolah did manage to knock Goku out, it is still unlikely that he is more powerful than him. Namely, Goku was caught by surprise and he never used the full extent of his powers, which is what probably allowed Granolah to knock him out. Had Goku fought with all of his power, he probably would’ve won easily.

Now that you have the short version of the answer, the rest of the article is going to be divided into three sections, with the first two introducing the characters, their powers, and their abilities. In the end, we’re going to give our final verdict and explanation on why Goku would ultimately be able to defeat Granolah in a direct fight, despite losing.

Son Goku and his powers

Son Goku is the main protagonist of the manga Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Super, and their animated adaptations, Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z / Dragon Ball Kai, then Dragon Ball Super, as well as the alternate animated sequel to the first two series, Dragon Ball GT.

Son Goku is a born martial arts expert and fan, managing to read the movements of his opponents and get used to their attacks and speed. Usually in combat, Goku reserves large amounts of strength and restrains himself to the point of seemingly decreasing his ki level to absurdly low points in order to save energy.

However, he also demonstrated the ability to unleash all his power at just the right time as he launches a physical attack. As a Saiyan, Goku is able to use the Saiyan Power, which allows him to surpass his strength whenever he takes large amounts of damage or fatal injuries. Goku being an alien also has enhanced senses of smell, taste and sight, which further increases his combat senses.

Son Goku is one of the strongest characters in the series; he rivals Vegeta for the position of Warrior Z and the most powerful warrior of Universe 7. At birth, his power was two units.

Upon arriving on Planet Earth at the age of three, Grandpa Gohan realizes that he is incredibly strong and that it would have been dangerous for him if he were not an expert in martial arts. Thus, he was in charge of molding and training him in martial arts.

Granolah and his powers

Granolah is the sole survivor of the Ceresians, who were wiped out by the Saiyan race under Frieza’s orders. Strongly motivated by his desire for revenge, he seeks to obtain the power necessary to assassinate the galactic tyrant and avenge the people against him.

Granolah

Granolah, like members of his race, is characterized by unparalleled sniping ability. The accuracy granted by his Right Eye makes him an excellent sniper, but he still requires Automil for his accuracy to be better. On occasions when he must physically fight, the Ceresian employs strikes to the opponents’ vital points (again, thanks to his Right Eye) to defeat them as quickly and efficiently as possible.

He was able to easily take down all of Don Goichi’s lackeys with his ray gun and defeat the OG Soldiers (whose hard drives hold OG73-I’s data and information like running backups) with a lethal series of finger shots by possessing great abilities of precision, concentration, reflexes, and agility as skills in general.

After asking Trombo to make him the ultimate warrior, Granolah gains the power capable of surpassing any mortal being in Universe 7. With this power, he was able to easily defeat Macki and Oil without any effort, although according to the data stored in OG73-I, Elec believes that if Son Goku and Vegeta team up they can overcome the Ceresian.

Granolah’s attacks to vital points are considered very precise, with enough force to lethally knock out Son Goku in both his base state and his Super Saiyan God form. Despite his power as the mightiest warrior, Granolah is at a disadvantage against Goku when he uses an inferior form of the Perfected Ultra Instinct.

Goku vs. Granolah: Who would win?

We could, actually, give you a proper analysis of the things we have written above but that wouldn’t really do the trick when compared with what we have decided to go with. Namely, as Goku and Granolah have, indeed, fought in the manga, we thought that it would be better for us to just recap this fight for you to see how it could help us understand this comparison.

When the Saiyans arrive on the planet in order to confront Granolah, Granolah uses his right eye (which he described as the best in the universe) to launch ki blasts at them without either of them being able to see where he was. He then punches Goku in a vital part, causing him to lose consciousness until Vegeta gives him a hermit seed in order for him to recover.

After that, Granolah appears in front of both of them, and shows his deep resentment towards the Saiyan race, a resentment that is recognized by Vegeta, the Ceresian refrains from giving explanations and begins to fight in order to destroy them, having the plan to annihilate Son. Goku first, and then ask Vegeta for Frieza’s location.

Granolah asks them if they weren’t going to transform into giant apes, but Goku reveals that the Saiyans no longer used that transformation; Goku goes from Super Saiyan to Super Saiyan God, confusing Granolah, who as far as he knew Saiyans have black hair. The battle continues and Granolah hits Goku again, but it takes a few seconds for Goku to suffer the effects because he is using the Perfected Ultra Instinct.

Granolah recognizes that Goku was not using his full power, so he demands that he fight seriously, causing Goku to transform into a Super Saiyan Blue, leaving the Ceresian even more confused. The fight between the two warriors causes explosions around the capital, causing the Sugarians to decide to flee.

After a while, Goku manages to activate the Perfected Ultra Instinct, worrying Granolah because his right eye abilities cannot see the Saiyan’s vital points. Granolah is defeated, but Granolah reveals that the warrior Goku was fighting was a power-split clone, created to save strength for his fight against Frieza.

The real Granolah uses the opportunity Goku is confused to knock him down with a single blow, attacking his vital point. Before Granolah could give Goku the finishing touch, Vegeta appears and provokes the Ceresian.

After reading all of this, you’ll probably think for yourselves that Granolah is stronger than Goku, but you’d be wrong there, at least we think you would. Namely, Granolah is a powerful character, but he is nowhere near Goku’s limit (if Goku even has a limit). Goku was surprised by Granolah and he never actually fought with the full extent of his powers and abilities. This is why Granolah was able to defeat him, but objectively, Goku is definitely stronger and would certainly find a way to defeat Granolah.
