Goku vs. Sailor Moon: Who Would Win in a Fight?

We don’t often get to do a multi-universe boy-vs-girl fight here on Fiction Horizon but the time has come to do one such comparison in this article. The protagonists of this comparison are two of the most famous anime characters in history. The boy is Son Goku, the protagonist of Akira Toriyama’s Dragon Ball who needs no further introduction, while the girl is Usagi Tsukino, whom you might know better by her pseudonym, Sailor Moon. In this article, we are going to tell you who would win in a fight between Goku and Sailor Moon.
In all honesty, this is not even a fair fight as Sailor Moon does not stand a chance against Goku. This is not because she’s a girl (Goku’s had his ass kicked by girls before), but because Goku’s power level is so much above Sailor Moon’s. Goku has fought Beerus and is described as a universal-level threat, whereas Sailor Moon’s opponents are nowhere near Goku’s level.
Now that you have the short version of the answer, the rest of the article is going to be divided into three sections, with the first two introducing the characters, their powers, and their abilities. In the end, we’re going to give our final verdict and explanation on why Son Goku would ultimately be able to defeat Sailor Moon in a fight.
Son Goku and his powers
Son Goku is the main protagonist of the manga Dragon Ball, and their animated adaptations, Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z / Dragon Ball Kai, then Dragon Ball Super, as well as the alternative animated sequel to the first two series, Dragon Ball GT. An orphan exiled from the defunct planet Vegeta, he lands on Earth where he grows up with his adoptive grandfather. His adventure begins the day he meets Bulma, a young adventurer, who invites him to look for the Dragon Balls.
He is an expert in martial arts, having been taught the style of the Turtle School; he is known to be close to a prodigy, managing to learn techniques and levels of strength that other individuals would take time to learn. He even knew how to use skills such as reading minds without even knowing how to do it. Goku has been shown to use different parts of his body to help him in combat, such as shooting a Kamehameha with his feet, using his eyes to launch a ki laser beam in the Frieza Saga among other examples.
Son Goku is a born martial arts expert and fan, managing to read his opponents’ movements and get used to his attacks and speed. Usually, in combat, Goku reserves large amounts of strength and restrains himself to the point of apparently lowering his ki level to absurdly low points in order to conserve energy, however, he also demonstrated the ability to unleash his full power just in the nick of time, when he launched a physical attack.
As a Saiyan, Goku is able to use the Saiyan Power, which allows him to surpass his strength whenever he takes large amounts of damage or fatal wounds. Goku being an alien also has enhanced senses of smell, taste, and sight, which further enhances his combat senses. Goku’s body is much more durable than normal human beings, being essentially invulnerable to all Earth-made weapons.
However, while he is naturally durable thanks to his Saiyan physiology, he has limits, as other powerful beings like himself can hurt, and potentially kill, him if he doesn’t defend himself properly. Also compared to most humans, including those trained in the ki arts, Son Goku possesses a great deal of strength, speed, and stamina.
For example, when he was a young child, he could lift a car over his head and throw it with ease, and during his training with Kame-Sennin, Goku could push massive rock formations that would at least weigh over 100 tons. At the height of his strength, he displayed the ability to destroy mountains, islands, and even heavily damage entire planets with physical force alone.
For speed, he displayed supersonic speeds even faster than light when he reached the Saiyan Saga. By the time he became a Super Saiyan God, his speed had reached speeds massive than the speed of light, and his physical strength was enough for one of the shockwaves from his punches to be felt throughout the universe, damaging incalculably and destroying many planets and stars, up to this point, just four hits between Beerus and Goku are enough to completely destroy the universe.
Goku usually uses techniques based on ki, using them in a fight as support, defense, and attack such as the Kamehameha, these are performed through the control and mastery of ki, born from the creativity and skill of the character. Son Goku is one of the strongest characters in the series, rivaling Vegeta for the position of the most powerful Z Warrior and Universe 7 warrior.
Sailor Moon and her powers
Sailor Moon is the main character of the franchise. Her real name is Usagi Tsukino. A carefree schoolgirl who can turn into the de facto leader of the main characters of the series, warriors in sailor suits. Due to the popularity of the pieces in many countries and her unusual and much-copied odango hairstyle, she has become one of the most recognizable and iconic anime characters in the entire world. Her boyfriend for most of the series, Mamoru Chiba, calls her by the affectionate nickname “Usako”.
To transform, she must use a special item (usually a brooch) and shout a key phrase that activates the device. For her first transformation, the command is: “Moon Prism Power, Make-up!”. She has a new transformation sequence in each of the story arcs. The team first changes, reflecting the fact that they have become stronger and have a new item to transform into, “Moon Crystal Power” and later “Moon Cosmic Power”.
To transform into Super Sailor Moon, she must already be in her warrior form and use an additional item (called the Holy Chalice/Rainbow Moon Chalice) as well as the “Crisis, make-up!” command, but in the anime this saps her powers over time. In the fourth story arc, she gains the ability to transform directly into Super Sailor Moon with Moon Crisis, and in the fifth story arc, she becomes Eternal Sailor Moon with Silver Moon Crystal Power in the manga or Moon Eternal in the anime (and once in the manga).
Most of the cutscenes for her transformation into Sailor Moon involve the use of glowing red or pink ribbons emerging from her brooch to create her uniform. Feathers and wings are also featured in some sequences, most notably when transforming into Eternal Sailor Moon. When she detransforms, the ribbons disappear and return to her brooch.
Usually, the clothes she was wearing before her transformation are returned, but if her detransformation was forced, she may be left naked with multiple ribbons around her body. She also has a transformation handle that allows her to put on any person’s costume by saying “Moon Power!” She is often used in the first story arc, but then only briefly mentioned in the third.
As the main character and team leader, Sailor Moon has special powers. Their roster includes Sailor Moon Kick and Sailor Body Attack, as well as using barrettes to attack when possible. In her very first battle, she cries in terror and the red hairpins in her odango can create sound waves, damaging the enemy. They can also be used to hear distant sounds, although this is rarely used.
She uses magic in most of her attacks. In all versions of the metaseries, she can remove her diadem and turn it into a throwing weapon, which becomes the first attack she learns. In the anime, she demonstrates the ability to control the direction of the diadem’s flight, and at one point she enlarges it and surrounds enemies with it, immobilizing them.
In the manga, the tiara’s empowerment allows her to attack Moon Twilight Flash, whereas in the TV series, this attack requires an item called the Moon Stick and is her primary attack, though she uses unnamed chain attacks at times. In the manga and anime, she only uses the Moon Wand for Moon Healing Escalation to bring demon-turned humans back to their normal state; Luna says in the anime that this item belongs to the leader of the warriors.
In the drama, she can heal people without any spells. The wand was created in the manga from the love of Princess Serenity and Prince Endymion, and in the anime, it was given to Sailor Moon by Queen Serenity. The monsters scream “Cleansing!”. In the manga, she uses it once with Baby. Moon Gorgeous Meditation’s attack uses the Moon Kaleidoscope, which in the manga was bought by Mamoru and upgraded by Pegasus, in the anime it comes straight from Pegasus.
In the SuperS manga and movie, it is a double attack with Sailor Baby. The monster screams “Stage out!”‘. Some attacks happen only once in critical situations; often used in the anime, the powers in the manga flashed only once. In the anime, Sailor Moon uses the team to transform in the battle against King Metalia and later, turning the Ayakashi sisters into ordinary women.
She casts Moon Cosmic Power when she fights Pharaoh 90. Sailor Moon can temporarily gain powers from other warriors, as demonstrated in the climax of the Sailor Moon R movie and several times in the anime.
She also often attacks along with her future daughter, Sailor Baby, and, at critical moments, can get powers from someone else, for example, Luna, Queen Serenity, herself from the future, Mamoru, Chibi-Chibi. The most important item in Sailor Moon’s arsenal is the Silver Crystal, which is the “sacred stone” of the Silver Millennium.
Goku vs. Sailor Moon: Who would win?
And now for the most important and interesting section of our article – the analysis. Here, we are going to use what we have found out about these two characters and analyze how all these facts would (or would not) help them in a fight against each other. Let us continue.
Well, to be frank, this isn’t even a fair fight, since Goku is so much more powerful than Sailor Moon. Sailor Moon relies on her cosmic powers and energy manipulation, but in all other fields, she is relatively weak. The thing is that her universe allows her to be such, as her opponents are adjusted to her powers and abilities, which makes Sailor Moon one of the most powerful characters in her own universe. But, can she beat Goku? No, she cannot.
Goku is one of the most powerful Dragon Ball characters, but even he is not the strongest character in his own universe. Still, he is recognized as an universal-level threat, being able to completely wipe out a whole universe if he gave it his all. And that’s not even his full potential, since Goku grows stronger with every fight he has.
On top of that, you have to consider the fact that he is an expert martial artist and he knows numerous powerful techniques. Like Sailor Moon, he can also transform, but Goku’s Saiyan transformation are much more powerful than anything Sailor Moon could offer. In that aspect, Sailor Moon would have trouble even against kid Goku, let alone the current version of the character.
And this doesn’t even have to do anything with the fact that she is a girl. Namely, Goku has fought female characters before and he has had his ass kicked by female characters, so Sailor Moon could definitely defeat him… were she on the same power level as he is. There is a significant difference in power between the two, and their respective genders have nothing to do with that.
Ultimately, Goku is so much stronger than Sailor Moon that this comparison never really presented a challenge. Sailor Moon may be one of the most characters in her own universe, but when compared to Goku, she doesn’t really stand a chance due to the enormous difference in powers that exists between the two.
