Grant Gustin Would Suit Up as The Flash Again James Gunn’s DCU

Grant Gustin spent nine years playing Barry Allen on The Flash, and he’s not against putting the red suit back on, but only if it’s for James Gunn’s new DC Universe.
At FAN EXPO Denver, during a panel with The Flash cast, a fan asked him a simple question: if James Gunn offered him a role in the DCU, who would he want to play? Gustin gave a quick and clear answer. “Flash,” he said. That was it. Just one word. But it was enough to get people talking.
“If James Gunn cast you in his DCU, who would you want to play?”

The actor played the speedster across 184 episodes, making The Flash the longest-running show in the Arrowverse. The series wrapped up in May 2023, and for a lot of fans, Gustin’s version of the character still stands as the best one.
Right now, though, it doesn’t look like DC has any new Flash projects lined up. James Gunn, who runs DC Studios now, confirmed back in December 2024 that there were no plans in motion for a Flash movie. So even if Gustin is willing to return, nothing is happening yet.
He talked a bit more about it with The Wrap. Gustin said he and Gunn have chatted before, but not about bringing back The Flash. “Like, we’ve never talked about Flash,” Gustin explained. “We’ve talked, just like, I’m a huge Superman fan. I’ve always been a Superman fan, since I was a kid. So I’m just really excited about the movie. And I’m excited about David’s casting.”
He’s talking about James Gunn’s upcoming Superman movie, with David Corenswet playing the lead. Gustin and Gunn have exchanged messages before, but they’ve never met in person.
As far as The Flash goes, it’s still unclear if the character will be part of Gunn’s DCU anytime soon. After the mixed reactions to the last live-action movie version, DC might be taking a break before bringing back the fastest man alive.
Even with all that, Gustin’s love for the character is still strong. If the right chance comes along, and if Gunn’s involved, he seems more than ready to run again.
