Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 Officially Wrapped Production
This week, Marvel fans are mostly all about Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which premiered yesterday, and Moon Knight, a limited series that concluded last Wednesday. But, you know Marvel, they’re always a few steps ahead, and now we got the confirmation that the upcoming third installment of the GOTG franchise — Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 officially wrapped production.
Guardians of the Galaxy had their live-action debut with the original movie of the same name that premiered in August 2014. Written and directed by James Gunn, a new team was introduced into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldaña, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, and Bradley Cooper played the original members of the team: Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Groot, and Rocket, respectively. They returned in 2017 with the sequel Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and they also appeared in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, after which Thor joined their team which is why they will appear in Thor: Love and Thunder this July before their third standalone movie.
Writer and director James Gunn shared on his Twitter account that the filming is done.
“And that’s a picture wrap on the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy. I love this amazing cast & crew & their beautiful talent & kind souls. I’m a lucky human to have them on the journey with me for nearly a decade.” — James Gunn
Zoe Saldaña also shared an image from the last day of filming on her Instagram account.
“That’s a wrap on #gamora and @guardiansofthegalaxy. What a journey it has been. Thank you @jamesgunn for this once in a lifetime opportunity. Wow! 10 years went by so fast! Thank you to the amazing cast and crew who have given so much of themselves every single day to make this experience unforgettable. Love you all!!!” — Zoe Saldaña
This third movie will bring closure to the current team of the Guardians. It’s not known if there are any plans for the fourth film or if any members of the team will return in other MCU projects, but this movie is sort of like an Endgame for Guardians. James Gunn confirmed this will be his last Marvel movie.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is set to open in theaters on May 5, 2023.
