Guy Pearce has publicly apologized after facing criticism for sharing controversial content on social media in support of Palestine. The Australian actor reportedly reposted material containing false claims and antisemitic conspiracy theories.

According to Jewish News, some of these posts included content from white nationalist figure Nick Fuentes and alleged Jewish control over certain industries, as well as blaming Israel for major events like the September 11 attacks.

In a statement to Jewish News, Pearce said, “It has been brought to my attention that, in my support of Palestine, I have inadvertently re-posted articles, and/or statements, that have contained misinformation and falsehoods. I am aware how sharing inaccurate content can cause confusion and distress; for this I am deeply sorry. I will certainly endeavor to be more diligent in future to verify anything I share online.”

Pearce has long been vocal about his support for Palestine. Earlier this year, he wore a pin depicting a white dove and the words “Free Palestine” at the Oscars. At the 2024 Cannes Film Festival, he wore a pin with the Palestinian flag, which led to controversy after Vanity Fair France digitally removed it from published images.

At the time, Pearce told CNN, “As the Palestinian people are already suffering great trauma and loss due to the vengeful regime of Netanyahu, it is most unfortunate that a reputable publication like VF attempts to eliminate support that I or anyone chooses to offer.”

The Campaign Against Antisemitism acknowledged Pearce’s apology but stressed that actions matter more than words. A spokesperson said, “His posts have not been harmless activism; they have spread ideas that sit firmly within the canon of classic antisemitism. His apology is a step in the right direction… But apologies are easy to give after the fact. What matters now is whether he genuinely changes his behavior and stops promoting this kind of content.”

This isn’t Pearce’s first controversy on social media. In 2023, he apologized for posts regarding casting of trans actors, acknowledging that his tweets caused confusion and were poorly phrased.

Pearce’s recent apology highlights the ongoing scrutiny celebrities face over social media activity, especially when discussing sensitive political topics. While he has expressed regret, the broader question remains whether he will avoid sharing content that spreads misinformation or harmful stereotypes in the future.
