Harrison Ford might be a legendary actor, but stepping into the Marvel universe as Red Hulk in Captain America: Brave New World was a surprise to many fans. Taking over the role of Thaddeus Ross after the late William Hurt was an opportunity Ford just couldn’t pass up, even though he’s never been a big fan of comic book characters.

Still, he handled the media spotlight like a pro, answering questions about his unexpected transformation into the Red Hulk.

Now that Brave New World has finished its theatrical run and is streaming on Disney+, people are still curious if Ford will return for more Marvel projects.

In a recent interview with Variety, when asked if Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige had convinced him to come back, Ford gave a simple answer: “Nope.”

Previously, co-star Anthony Mackie praised working with Ford, calling it a dream come true. Mackie admitted he was so nervous on set that he forgot his lines around the Hollywood icon. Ford helped ease the tension with his trademark line, “Let’s shoot this piece of shi,”* a phrase Ford reportedly uses often on set to keep things light, even if it sounds harsh.

Mackie said, “He’s everything a movie star should be. He would say, ‘Let’s shoot this piece of s****’ and everybody was like, ‘Yeah, let’s shoot this s***.’”

When asked why he took the role of Red Hulk and how he approached playing such a different character, Ford gave a brutally honest answer: “It took not caring, it took being an idiot for money which I’ve done before… but it was fun!” It’s clear Ford knows what he’s getting into with these kinds of roles, he even compared it to his experience playing Han Solo, where he also wasn’t exactly starry-eyed about the work.

Fans have mixed feelings about Ford’s attitude. Some appreciate his honesty and his laid-back approach to his Marvel role. Others can’t understand why he’d take roles he seems to dislike so much.

As for the future, Captain America 4 didn’t do as well as hoped, and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige admitted part of the problem was Chris Evans leaving the franchise. While Anthony Mackie is set to continue in future Avengers movies, the future of Ford’s Red Hulk remains unclear.
