Harvey Weinstein spoke for the first time from behind bars in a rare interview at Rikers Island. The disgraced Hollywood producer, who is serving time for s*** crimes, shared his side of the story, his life in prison, and his thoughts about the women who accused him.

Weinstein, 73, said most of his day is spent alone in his cell, leaving only briefly for fresh air or medical care. He described his life at Rikers as isolating and scary. “I spend almost all of it in my cell. Sometimes I’ll go out in the wheelchair just to get some air, but that’s only half an hour. Mostly I’m in my cell 23 hours a day,” he said.

The conversation turned to the women who accused him of s**** misconduct. Weinstein admitted he misled some women but claimed that not all were innocent. “I misled them. I cheated on both my wives. That’s immoral. But I did not assault them. That is the big lie of all of this,” he said.

He also suggested that some women knew what might happen when they came to see him. “I will say, though, when a guy invites you to his hotel room in the middle of the night, you know what’s on the agenda,” he told the interviewer. He added that while some may have regretted it later, others might have seen an opportunity for a payout. “Maybe they saw an opportunity for a payout. But not all of them were as naive as they liked to pretend.”

Weinstein acknowledged his power in Hollywood and admitted there was a power imbalance. “Yes, there was a power imbalance. I know I can be scary and difficult. But that’s still a long way from s**** assault. Over-flirtation, ridiculous situations. Bad and stupid behavior. Yes. But I didn’t push anybody. I didn’t physically move anybody.”

He also spoke about his attempts to control his image and protect his private life. Weinstein said staff helped cover up his affairs, but he took full responsibility. “There’s only one person who’s to blame. That’s me. These people were so happy to be at The Weinstein Co. or Miramax — to be at the center and apex of the industry — that they were willing to lie for me. And I pushed them to lie. But I did it. It’s all on me.”

Throughout the interview, Weinstein framed himself as a victim of circumstance and insisted he would be proven innocent. “I won’t apologize for something I didn’t do. I will be proven innocent. That I promise you,” he said.

The interview was conducted by Maer Roshan and provides a glimpse into Weinstein’s mindset, six years after he fell from Hollywood’s top tier. While he expressed regret for misleading women and cheating on his wives, he repeatedly denied committing sexual assault and suggested some women were aware of the risks when meeting him.
