Hayden Christensen Is Down for a ‘Jumper’ Sequel, but Don’t Expect Him to Teleport Back Anytime Soon
Before he returned to the ‘Star Wars’ galaxy, Hayden Christensen headlined one of the more memorable sci-fi action films of the late 2000s. ‘Jumper’, directed by Doug Liman and released by 20th Century Fox on Valentine’s Day, starred Christensen as David Rice, a young man with the ability to teleport anywhere in the world.
Loosely based on Steven Gould’s novel, the film featured a strong cast, with Rachel Bilson as Millie Harris, Samuel L. Jackson as Paladin leader Roland Cox and Jamie Bell as rogue Jumper Griffin O’Connor. Diane Lane, Michael Rooker and Kristen Stewart also appeared.
Now Christensen says he’d still like to go back to that world. Speaking at a Friday night panel at L.A. Comic Con on October 30, the actor revealed that he would be open to making a ‘Jumper’ sequel.
“When we did ‘Jumper’, we thought we were going to make some more of those films, and then for different reasons we didn’t,” Christensen said, according to The Nerd Wire. He then gave fans a careful dose of hope, adding, “Don’t hold your breath, but it’s possible maybe one day.”
He also suggested that a sequel could work by jumping ahead in the story’s timeline. That kind of time gap could give a new film room to revisit David years after the events of the original.
The studio originally envisioned ‘Jumper’ as the start of a trilogy. Liman has discussed sequel ideas over the years, but no follow-up film has ever been announced. Critics weren’t kind to the original. It earned a 15% score on Rotten Tomatoes and a 35 out of 100 on Metacritic, though audiences gave it a “B” CinemaScore.

Still, the film found an audience at the box office. Made on an $85 million budget, it earned roughly $221 million and $225 million worldwide, and the franchise later continued in a different form with the spinoff series ‘Impulse’ on YouTube Premium.
The ‘Jumper’ comments were just one highlight of Christensen’s roughly 45-minute panel. He also shared a surprising story about catching a burglar in his home who recognized him and apologized.
According to Christensen, the man said he was struggling financially and needed money to get home. The actor offered to drive him to the train station the next day and buy his ticket, even giving him clothes and shoes, but the man never came back.
He closed the story with a joke for the crowd, asking people not to try to burglarize his house again and noting that he has great security cameras. As expected, ‘Star Wars’ was also a big topic. Christensen explained that George Lucas wanted Anakin to always believe he was doing the right thing, summing up the idea by saying that the villain never sees himself as the villain.
He also said his return in ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ depended on a confrontational moment between Anakin and Darth Vader. When asked about the best order to watch the saga, he declined to choose, saying there’s no right or wrong way.
For now, a ‘Jumper’ sequel remains an idea rather than a plan. Christensen’s interest at least keeps the door open for fans who have wanted more since the film’s release. With his ‘Star Wars’ return reigniting interest in his career, there may never be a better time to revisit David Rice. Whether a studio agrees is another question.
