Hayden Christensen Says His Daughter Has Yet To Watch His ‘Star Wars’ Role – Here’s Why
Hayden Christensen recently shared a lighthearted story about trying to watch his own cinematic history with his daughter, only to find that the timing was not quite right. During an appearance at GalaxyCon in March, the actor revealed that he had to cut a screening of Revenge of the Sith short after only twenty minutes.
He explained that his daughter, Briar Rose, had a strict bedtime that coincided with a particularly violent moment in the film. “It was getting late, and it was past her bedtime. And I was about to take Count Dooku’s head off. So I thought that was a good exit point,” Christensen joked to the crowd.
This brief attempt at a movie night highlights a unique parenting challenge for the man who portrayed one of the most feared villains in movie history. While many children grow up watching their parents’ work, the transition from heroic Jedi to Sith Lord makes for a complicated viewing experience.
According to the actor, his eleven-year-old daughter is fully aware that he played a major character in the Star Wars universe, but she has not yet watched the films in their entirety.
The primary issue seems to be her understanding of the character’s dark future as Darth Vader. Christensen noted that she knows Vader is a “bad guy” and is understandably hesitant to see her own father transform into a galactic antagonist on screen.
For years, Christensen has mentioned his tendency to delay these screenings, waiting for her to reach an age where the distinction between fiction and reality is more comfortable. This recent update from GalaxyCon suggests that while they have made a small attempt to start the prequel trilogy, the “dad movie night” is still a work in progress.
There is a certain irony in the fact that one of the most tragic stories in modern cinema is being held at bay by ordinary family logic and bedtimes. For fans, it is a humanizing reminder that behind the mask of Darth Vader is a father trying to navigate the right way to share his legacy. For now, it seems the “high ground” in the Christensen household is held by a consistent sleep schedule rather than a lightsaber.
Outside of his family life, Hayden Christensen has been incredibly active in the Star Wars community throughout the first quarter of the year. He has spent much of the month traveling to various fan conventions.
These appearances have allowed him to connect with a new generation of fans who have embraced his recent returns to the franchise in the Obi-Wan Kenobi and Ahsoka series. On the professional front, Christensen is currently balancing his convention schedule with work on the second season of Ahsoka, which is in production for Disney+.
As he nears his 45th birthday, the actor continues to be a central figure in the entertainment world, frequently spotted at major industry events like the Saturn Awards. He remains a favorite among critics and fans alike for his thoughtful approach to his iconic role and his genuine interactions with the public.
