HBO Drops Mind-Blowing First Look at New ‘Harry Potter’ Series
HBO has given fans their first glimpse of the new “Harry Potter” TV series, and the excitement is already building. On Tuesday morning, the network released an image showing the young wizard heading toward the Quidditch pitch.
The shot is taken from behind, with Harry wearing his Gryffindor Quidditch robes and carrying his broom. Fans quickly noticed a “Fred and George” banner in the background, a nod to Ron Weasley’s mischievous older brothers. This detail adds a familiar touch for longtime fans of the series, according to HBO.
Dominic McLaughlin will play Harry, with Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley and Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger. The trio was officially announced in May, and the show started production in July, just two months later. HBO teased that a full trailer for the series will drop on Wednesday. The caption for the image included a lightning bolt emoji, hinting at Harry’s iconic scar, but no other details about the storyline were revealed.
The TV adaptation was first announced in 2023, when HBO rebranded its streaming service as Max (now back to HBO Max). None of the actors from the original films are returning. Daniel Radcliffe, who played Harry in the movies, expressed excitement about the new version for a younger audience. “I’m actually delighted that if, when my kid grows up and is into ‘Harry Potter,’ he can watch a version that is not me, which I feel like watching it with your dad would be less cool, right?” he told Stephen Colbert.
Radcliffe also shared that he reached out to McLaughlin to wish him well in the role. He encouraged fans not to compare the new actors to him, Emma Watson, or Rupert Grint, saying the series is meant to stand on its own.
HBO’s first image and teaser hint at a fresh take on the beloved story while keeping some classic elements intact. What do you think of this first look at the new Harry Potter series? Share your thoughts in the comments.
