HBO has already renewed A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms for a second season, which is set to premiere in 2027.

The announcement came from HBO and HBO Max CEO Casey Bloys during a press presentation in New York on Thursday morning. This comes just before the show’s first season, now scheduled to debut on January 18.

The series is a prequel to Game of Thrones and adapts George R.R. Martin’s Tales of Dunk and Egg novellas. It was originally planned to premiere later this year but was delayed to January 2026.

According to reports, the shift in timing allows the series to remain outside the HBO-Sky deal while being ready for the launch of HBO Max in the UK and Ireland.

Created by Ira Parker and George R.R. Martin, the show follows the adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall, known as Dunk, and his squire, Aegon Targaryen, nicknamed Egg. Peter Claffey plays Dunk, while Dexter Sol Ansell portrays Egg. The story explores the Targaryen family and the world of Westeros several generations before the events of Game of Thrones.

Other cast members include Finn Bennett as Prince Aerion “Brightflame” Targaryen, Bertie Carvel as Prince Baelor “Breakspear” Targaryen, Tanzyn Crawford as Tanselle, Daniel Ings as Ser Lyonel Baratheon, and Sam Spruell as Prince Maekar Targaryen.

The series promises to bring fans back to the rich and detailed world of George R.R. Martin’s universe, focusing on the earlier days of the Targaryens and the adventures of a humble knight and his squire.
