HBO’s Harry Potter TV series is already facing comparisons to the movies, and the latest photos of the Hogwarts Express aren’t helping.

The plan for the show is to adapt one book per season, giving the team more time to include details that the films couldn’t fit. But fans are worried the series will always be in the shadow of the famous movies.

The Wizarding World Direct account on X recently shared pictures and a short video of the Hogwarts Express for the show.

Many people immediately noticed how much the train looks like the version from the films. Some viewers even joked that it could be a behind-the-scenes look from the old movies.

Is it the same as in the movies? Or just very similar?” One commenter asked.

Chris Columbus, who directed the first two Harry Potter movies, has also spoken about the TV series. He criticized HBO for using the same costume for Hagrid that he created for the films.

“Part of me was like: ‘What’s the point?’” Columbus said, expressing that he had expected the show to take a different approach. It’s likely he would have similar concerns about the Hogwarts Express.

Even though the TV series has the potential to explore the books more deeply, the early images suggest it might stick too close to what fans already know from the movies.

While staying true to the source material is important, HBO should find ways to make its version stand out visually and creatively. What do you think, does the Hogwarts Express look too familiar, or are you happy to see the classic design? Share your thoughts in the comments.
