HBO’s Harry Potter Series Finds Its New Neville and Dudley

The new Harry Potter TV show from HBO has found two more important characters. According to Warner Bros. Discovery, Rory Wilmot will play Neville Longbottom and Amos Kitson will play Dudley Dursley. These young actors are not well-known yet, but fans will soon see them take on these classic roles.

That’s not all. The company also shared that Louise Brealey will play Madam Hooch, who teaches flying lessons at Hogwarts, and Anton Lesser will play Ollivander, the wand maker. Lesser is an experienced actor who people might recognize from Game of Thrones or Andor.

This new series is a complete remake of the original Harry Potter story. Each season will cover one of the seven books, so fans can expect much more detail than the movies had. The show is being filmed now and is expected to arrive in 2027 on HBO and HBO Max.

The idea for this show started years ago. Back in 2021, Warner Bros. was already thinking about a Harry Potter series, according to news reports. In 2022, David Zaslav, the CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, met with J.K. Rowling to talk about new projects based in the wizarding world.

In April 2023, Warner Bros. Discovery officially announced the new Harry Potter series. At first, the show was supposed to be on Max, the company’s streaming service. J.K. Rowling is involved as an executive producer. She said she is “looking forward to being part of this new adaptation which will allow for a degree of depth and detail only afforded by a long form television series.”

Originally, the show was supposed to come out in 2026. But in June 2024, the company decided it would now be shown on HBO instead of Max.

In June 2024, Francesca Gardiner was named as the showrunner. Mark Mylod will direct and also help produce the series. David Heyman, who produced the original Harry Potter movies, has also joined the production team.

Earlier this year, the main trio was announced. Dominic McLaughlin will play Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton will play Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout will play Ron Weasley.

With Neville and Dudley now cast, the world of this new Harry Potter series is really starting to take shape. Fans will have to wait a while, but more familiar faces will soon return to the screen in this new version of the story.
