‘Hell of a Summer’ is a 2023 comedy-horror movie written and directed by Finn Wolfhard and Billy Bryk, marking Bryk’s first time as a director. The film features Fred Hechinger, Abby Quinn, Billy Bryk, Finn Wolfhard, Pardis Saremi, and D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai.

The movie focuses on the night before campers arrive at Camp Pineway, as a masked killer starts targeting the staff. You know the drill.

The film premiered back in 2023 at Toronto International Film Festival, but if you’re not an avid festival-goer you will be able to watch it on Neon on April 18, 2025.

As we are nearing release, the first trailer for the movie has been released:

The cast of ‘Hell of a Summer’ includes Fred Hechinger as Jason, Abby Quinn as Claire, Billy Bryk as Bobby, and Finn Wolfhard as Chris. Other notable cast members are Pardis Saremi as Demi, D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai as Mike, Krista Nazaire as Shannon, and Matthew Finlan as Ezra.

‘Hell of a Summer’ was announced in July 2022, with Finn Wolfhard and Billy Bryk writing, directing, and starring in the film, marking Bryk’s first time directing. Fred Hechinger joined the cast and also helped produce the film, along with Jason Bateman, Michael Costigan, and Jay Van Hoy.

Wolfhard, who was 20 at the time, struggled to find funding, as some investors were concerned about his age. The film was inspired by Edgar Wright’s ‘Shaun of the Dead’ (2004). Filming took place in Ontario, Canada, from July to August 2022, and the movie entered post-production by February 2023.
