Henry Cavill and Kevin Hart are teaming up for a movie that sounds like it should not work on paper, which is exactly why it could be so much fun. Netflix’s upcoming action comedy ‘Spy Duo’ has started filming, and the first behind-the-scenes photos give fans a look at the very different worlds these two actors will bring to the story.

The new photos were taken on location in Glen Ridge, New Jersey, and show Cavill and Hart filming scenes for the movie. Cavill looks like the serious spy audiences might expect from him, wearing an all-black outfit and suede jacket while sitting on a red Triumph motorcycle. Hart goes in the opposite direction, wearing a Joy Division T-shirt and plaid pajama pants. The contrast pretty much sums up the whole idea behind the movie.

‘Spy Duo’ was first announced in May, with McG attached to direct. Production officially began on August 31 and is expected to continue through November 23. The crew is shooting in both New Jersey and France, giving the movie a mix of American and international locations that should fit its spy story nicely.

The basic idea is where things get really interesting. Cavill and Hart play rival spies who are used to living dangerous double lives. Their worlds suddenly collide when their pregnant wives become friends after meeting at a Lamaze class. The two men are then forced to work together, even though they would probably rather be anywhere else.

That setup gives the movie plenty of room for the kind of comedy that comes from putting two completely different people together. Cavill has spent years playing serious action heroes, including Superman and Geralt of Rivia, while Hart is best known for his fast-talking comedy roles. Seeing Cavill deal with the chaos of family life while Hart gets pulled into spy missions could be the main source of the movie’s humor.

The supporting cast is also packed with familiar faces. Jason Isaacs, Justine Lupe, and Aja Naomi King have joined the project, adding more talent around the two leads. The script comes from several writers, including Wendy and Lizzie Molyneux, Adam and Aaron Nee, and Jonathan Tropper. That group brings experience in both comedy and big action projects.

McG is directing the film, which is another reason to expect a mix of action and comedy. His past work includes ‘Charlie’s Angels’ and ‘The Babysitter,’ so he has plenty of experience moving between different tones. The movie is being produced by Hartbeat, Ryan Reynolds’ Maximum Effort, and Shawn Levy’s 21 Laps Entertainment. Levy’s company has also been behind major action comedies such as ‘Free Guy.’

There is even a temporary title hiding in the production. According to the set information, signs used during filming have displayed the name “The Serpent and the Snake.” It is not clear if that will become the final title or if it is simply being used as a working name while production continues.

For now, Netflix has not announced an exact release date. The movie is expected to arrive sometime in the second half of 2027, so fans still have a long wait ahead. That also gives the studio plenty of time to show more footage and reveal exactly how Cavill and Hart’s characters will fit together.
