Former Disney actor Matt Prokop has been arrested in Texas on serious charges, including possession of child p********. The 35-year-old, who starred in High School Musical 3, was taken into custody on December 24 in Victoria County, according to an employee at the local jail. TMZ first reported the arrest, and PEOPLE later confirmed the details.

Prokop is facing a total of five charges. They include one count of second-degree felony possession of child p********, as well as four misdemeanor charges: violating a protective order, evading arrest or detention, and two counts of resisting arrest or search. He is currently being held at the Victoria County Sheriff’s Office Jail, and it is not yet clear when he will appear in court.

This arrest comes years after serious allegations from Prokop’s ex-girlfriend, Modern Family star Sarah Hyland. She accused him of verbal and physical abuse during their five-year relationship.

Court documents show that in May 2014, Hyland claims Prokop slammed her into a car and choked her during an argument. Later that year, her Modern Family co-star Julie Bowen reportedly helped Hyland end the relationship after Prokop allegedly threatened her and her property.

Following these threats, Hyland obtained a restraining order against Prokop in September 2014. In interviews years later, she has spoken about the lasting impact of the abuse, explaining that experiences like these leave emotional scars. “It’s something that kind of scars her soul a little bit. It’s more so putting love towards that scar instead of hating it and ignoring it,” Hyland told Variety in October 2024.

According to the arrest warrant, Prokop’s alleged actions have now extended beyond the prior abusive behavior, prompting law enforcement to pursue the current felony and misdemeanor charges. Details about the ongoing investigation have not been fully released, but authorities confirmed they are handling the case in line with local and federal law.
