Hilary Duff Shares Honest Truth About Life as a Child Star and Having Zero Education
Hilary Duff recently reflected on her unconventional upbringing in the entertainment industry, noting that her career often took precedence over traditional schooling. During a sit-down on the Table Manners podcast with hosts Jessie Ware and Lennie Ware, the 38-year-old artist discussed the gaps in her formal learning during her years as a young star.
While discussing her time on set, she candidly remarked, “I received zero education, but I know a lot about a lot of things.” She explained that while she was technically homeschooled, her mother eventually encouraged her to pursue a high school equivalency.
She recalled her saying, “Can you just go get your GED?” Ultimately, she chose not to obtain the credential but expressed a sense of pride in how she has since expanded her own knowledge.
“I feel like I educated myself on my own on different things I was interested in,” she shared, mentioning that she finds great joy in reading whenever her very busy and hectic schedule allows for it.
Duff also noted that she no longer feels self-conscious about her academic background, stating that she has reached a point where she is comfortable with her unique experiences.
“I think I’m past the window of caring that my education wasn’t great because I feel like I got strengths in other areas,” she told the hosts, adding that she isn’t afraid to ask questions or use modern tools like search engines for historical facts.
Interestingly, she finds herself learning alongside her eldest son, Luca, who is currently receiving a more traditional education. “Something that’s been so cool is connecting to my kid and having him teach me stuff that I didn’t know about,” she noted, while emphasizing that she views a strong educational foundation as a priority for all four of her children.
The singer’s return to the spotlight comes at a major high point in her music career following a decade-long hiatus. Her sixth studio album, luck…or something, was released on February 20 and quickly climbed to the third spot on the Billboard 200 chart.
The project, which was largely produced by her husband Matthew Koma, features popular tracks like Mature and Roommates. Beyond the recording studio, Duff is set to star in an upcoming docuseries directed by Sam Wrench, which will provide a behind-the-scenes look at her journey back into the music world.
Fans are also eagerly anticipating her Lucky Me World Tour, which is scheduled to kick off in West Palm Beach this June and will travel through the United Kingdom and Australia later this year.
As she prepares for her global tour, she has also been performing a limited series of sold-out residency shows in Las Vegas. This professional resurgence marks a significant new era for the former Disney Channel star, who has successfully transitioned from a teen idol to a respected pop artist and entrepreneur.
Between managing a household of four children and navigating a massive world tour, her life remains a delicate balancing act of family and fame. However, her recent interview suggests that she is embracing this chapter with more confidence and self-awareness than ever before.
