Hilary Duff’s husband, Matthew Koma, has fired back after Ashley Tisdale sparked online debate with a recent essay about a “toxic” mom group.

On January 1, Tisdale, now known as Ashley Tisdale French after marrying singer Christopher French in 2014, published a personal essay in The Cut about leaving a group of moms that she said “stopped being healthy and positive.”

The piece quickly drew attention, with fans speculating about who might be involved. Many pointed to Instagram photos shared by Hilary Duff in 2021, which showed Duff with Tisdale French, Mandy Moore, and Meghan Trainor, suggesting they could be the group referenced.

While none of the moms named in the speculation have commented on the essay, Koma addressed it on Instagram on Tuesday.

He shared an edited image of Tisdale French with his own face over hers, styled like a magazine cover. The fake headlines read, “A mom group tell all through a father’s eyes” and “When you’re the most self-obsessed tone deaf person on earth, other moms tend to shift focus to their actual toddlers.”

Duff and Koma have been married since 2019 and share three daughters. Tisdale French and her husband, meanwhile, have two daughters close in age to Duff and Koma’s two youngest.

Both Duff and Tisdale have publicly referenced their mom group before. In 2021, Duff shared photos of a playdate with the group, captioning a picture of the babies, “All da babies.” Tisdale French had also posted at the time about a getaway with the group, writing, “Moms weekend away! I love being surrounded by these ladies. What an amazing group of women to journey through this mom-hood together! So grateful for this trip.”

Fans noted that Tisdale French continues to follow Meghan Trainor on Instagram but no longer follows Duff or Moore, adding to the speculation. However, a representative for Tisdale French told TMZ that the essay was referring to a completely different mom group than the one people assumed.
