Hilary Duff’s Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Cover Is Making the Rounds Again, and Fans Still Can’t Get Enough
Hilary Duff has had one of the most memorable comebacks of 2026. The former Disney star has spent the year redefining herself with a new album, her first world tour in almost 2 decades, and a magazine debut few people saw coming.
That magazine moment is back in the spotlight this week. Complex re-shared images from her shoot on X, and the post quickly took off, showing how much the photos still resonate months after they first came out.
Duff was one of 4 cover stars of the 2026 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue, which was unveiled on May 12. It was her first time appearing in the magazine, and she did it at 38. Her fellow cover models were Alix Earle, Tiffany Haddish, and Nicole Williams English.
The shoot took place in South Caicos, and photographer Kat Irlin captured the images. The photos re-shared this week show Duff in black one-piece swimsuits against sunlit white walls and sand.
The one-piece styling was a deliberate choice. Speaking on Kylie Kelce’s ‘Not Gonna Lie’ podcast in May, Duff explained that she told the SI team early on that she wasn’t going to wear a bikini. She said the decision came down to what she felt comfortable showing as a mom of 4.

Many fans appreciated that approach. It showed that a swimsuit cover could be done on the star’s own terms, and it set the tone for a shoot built around confidence instead of meeting anyone else’s expectations.
Duff spoke candidly about self-image in her cover story. “I can look at my body now and appreciate all the things it has done for me,” she told Sports Illustrated Swimsuit. She added, “I no longer find that I am constantly comparing myself—and that is a better place to exist.”
SI Swimsuit editor-in-chief MJ Day praised her path as well, describing Duff’s career arc as “its own form of quiet rebellion.” That framing fits a year in which Duff has clearly taken charge of her own story.

When the cover first came out, Duff’s husband, producer Matthew Koma, had a funny reaction. Responding to an Instagram comment from Amanda Kloots asking how he was holding it together, Koma replied with a single word suggesting he was barely managing. His playful reply went viral, and fans loved seeing how proud he was.
Koma has been closely involved in Duff’s year, producing the music that sent her back on tour. The cover arrived at the center of Duff’s return to music. Her album ‘luck…or something’ came out in February 2026, her first new record since 2015. “I had my husband as producer, and I made the music I wanted to make,” she told SI, describing the experience as feeling “like therapy.”
She is now on The Lucky Me Tour, her first major global headlining run in nearly 20 years. The tour began on June 22 in West Palm Beach and runs until February 12, 2027, in Mexico City, with stops in 7 countries and special guests including La Roux, Jade LeMac and Lauren Spencer Smith.
The cover’s lasting appeal goes beyond the images. Duff has been open about becoming more confident after 4 children, and her comfort-first approach to the shoot made the moment feel personal and authentic.
With her tour still on the road and the photos circulating again, the Sports Illustrated cover remains one of the defining moments of her comeback year. For longtime fans who grew up with her, it’s been especially rewarding to watch.
