‘Home Improvement’ Star Arrested Again – Sixth Arrest in Just Five Years
Zachery Ty Bryan, best known for his role as Brad Taylor on the hit ’90s TV show Home Improvement, was arrested on Saturday in Eugene, Oregon, for allegedly violating the terms of his probation from a prior domestic violence conviction, according to PEOPLE.
Bryan, 44, was taken into custody alongside his fiancée, Johnnie Faye Cartwright, who faces five charges, including driving under the influence, three counts of reckless endangering, and one count of attempted first-degree assault, PEOPLE reports, citing jail records.
This latest arrest marks Bryan’s sixth in five years. His legal troubles have included multiple DUI arrests in 2024, charges of domestic violence in South Carolina in January of this year, and a history of prior convictions.
In 2023, he pleaded guilty to felony assault in the fourth degree constituting domestic violence and was sentenced to seven days in jail with three years of supervised probation, KEZI reported. His probation does not expire until October 2026.
Bryan has also faced legal issues beyond violence-related charges. In 2023, The Hollywood Reporter detailed allegations that Bryan ran a fraudulent agriculture-technology startup scheme, reportedly earning around $50,000 from investors through fake contracts. That same year, a Los Angeles court ordered Bryan and his production company, Lost Lane, to pay over $108,000 to an investor over a separate film-related scam.
Bryan’s criminal history extends back several years. In October 2020, he was arrested in Lane County, Oregon, on charges including felony strangulation, fourth-degree assault, and interfering with a police report following an argument with his girlfriend. He later pleaded guilty to menacing and fourth-degree assault and was sentenced to probation and a batterer intervention program.
Over the past few years, Bryan has been involved in multiple DUI cases. In February 2024, he was arrested in La Quinta, California, for operating a vehicle under the influence, marking his fourth DUI charge.
Later that year, he was arrested in Oklahoma for a second DUI offense of 2024 and driving without a valid license. Dashcam footage confirmed that he had refused a sobriety test and admitted to driving after drinking.
In January, Bryan was again arrested for second-degree domestic violence in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. He was released the following day, with the victim later identified as Cartwright.
Bryan’s repeated legal troubles have drawn significant media attention, highlighting a long history of criminal behavior over recent years.
