The future of House of the Dragon is now much clearer. Fans have been wondering for a long time how many seasons the Game of Thrones prequel would run. That question now has a clear answer from the show’s creator.

Ryan Condal confirmed that the series will end with Season 4. He shared the news while speaking on the Escape Hatch podcast.

During the conversation, Condal talked about finishing work on Season 3 and slowly returning to a normal routine after an intense production period. While reflecting on the process, he made it clear that there is only one season left to make.

According to Condal, Season 3 finished filming in late October and is now deep in post-production. At the same time, the writing team has already started working on Season 4. He confirmed that this final chapter is now officially in development and will bring the story to a close.

While talking about the progress, Condal sounded confident and calm about where the show stands. He said, “We’re getting rough cuts and early material. I feel good. It really feels like we’ve turned a big page here. Knowing there’s only one more season left, it feels like we can leave it all out on the field. We’ve started the writing process for Season 4, which will be the last one.”

Condal also spoke honestly about how demanding the show has been. He explained that the work required to bring the dragons to life takes a huge amount of time and energy, and that protecting quality has always been a top priority. Even so, he described Season 3 as a positive experience overall.

He added, “It takes so long to make these goddamn dragons that we have to protect that time and make sure they look as good as they do. It was exhausting. But in many ways, it was the happiest season I’ve had on the show. Mentally, I felt strong, even if physically I was worn down.”

The comments suggest that the creative team is fully focused on finishing the story properly. Rather than stretching the series out, the plan is to tell the full Dance of the Dragons story and bring it to a clear ending.
